I'm playing in a 5 player game of Compass Games' "Fall Blau" this weekend and am looking forward to it, especially since I've been playing a lot from "Valor of the Guards" lately so definitely in an East Front/Stalingrad type of mood.

Isle of Skye with my daughter last night. Playtest of GMT's Pericles at the First Minnesota gaming group. Just ordered To the Last Man! after watching it get played this past weekend. Itching to play my GMT COIN-series Falling Sky on Caesar's Gallic War, but just to much to play. It's a nice problem to have.

Beautiful downtown Stalingrad...where every building has a skylight added to the ceiling and the vehicular traffic in the streets is virtually non-existent.

Across Five Aprils, Gettysburg, last Saturday.
My Union forces lost on the first day : I didn't manage to stem the grey tide enough.
I am ashamed of my performance - but A5A typically has the combat markers drawn at any time along a turn, and this made my defenders evacuate Culp's hill and Cemetary Ridge at a bad moment - and Bufford's cavalry were encircled and killed earlier without having had the opportunity to pull back.
I should nevertheless have retreated one or two turns faster : my speed bumps didn't work well.
A5A does lead to wild results.

End of July 1st, 1863 situation:

Just Played the Bagration Scenario from Victory Roads (Hexasim), very enjoyable. Some of the prettiest counters around. Nice chrome via randomly drawn (mainly) support counters and the Fuhrer 'satisfaction' track. Piss him off with too many unit withdrawals and dismissals will follow.

recommended.

Very unique and imaginative!

I immediately thought of a similar 'Stalin's Satisfaction Track' for the Soviet player. Too many failures and its an early morning knock on the door and a car ride to the Lubyanka.

We played about 17 turns (out of 60!!) of "Fall Blau" yesterday. Big ass game; lots of fun, simple to learn. What impressed me the most? The expanse of Russia. WTF was Hitler thinking??

We need a place to put that big new sofa. What about the Soviet Union?

Perry,

Try it on VASSAL first as it does have a learning curve---if you like it then get it; I recommend it for the maps and counters alone as components are top notch work.

Mark,

from what I have seen on VASSAL it seems and looks very well done, and very pleasing to the eye. If I can get my head around ASL (just) then TGD should be no worries, just gotta find a copy for a good price my side of the pond now.

We opened the summer intern gaming season here at the NASA Langley Research Center with 16 participants over to my house last night. It was a nice mix of seasoned gamers and newer players, so we all played a couple of rounds of Codenames as an icebreaker. This was followed by the group dispersing to play a couple games of 7 Wonders, Splendor, Ra, Guillotine, and Machi Koro. A good time was had by all!

I really like the system. Assaults can be complex, command and control is well designed, just make sure what actions can be conducted for each command chit type and when. Oh yes, you can be shot at in the hex you are leaving
