Two questions...

1) Would a picture of a naked, wooden, little boy puppet be consider "child porn"? :hmmm:

2) Why do you have a picture of a naked, wooden, little boy puppet?

It occurs to me that part (admittedly only part) of the problem with the impression Portal makes on the universe is that he's chosen an arrogant smoking SS murderer as his avatar. I don't know about you but every time I see that picture I just scroll on by...

I think there is no question that the avator affects a reader's impression.

A person will change his avatar for any number of reasons impossible to determine.

However, I would venture to say that an online poster will even be affected by his own avatar, to the point of taking on that personality.

Whether real or imagined, there usually seems to be a certain congruence between one's avatar and the way the message "sounds". When that congruence is missing, when the post doesn't seem to match the avatar, doesn't the message seem... odd?

Has anyone else noticed that phenomenon? Is it real?

Maybe, maybe not. Perhaps I'm just brainwashed by my communications education... the subtle bastards.

I agree with Bruce. Recently a bunch of guys on CSW started using avatars of other CSWers and it threw off the readers, (even those who recognized who the poster really was) because the readers had already conditioned themselves to expect what style to read when they saw a certain avatar.
