Well I judged the rest of the Aussie batsmen correctly just didn't give Hussey and Haddin their due.
There's too much time for a draw unless England can really pull one out. Who will be their stand out batsman. A captains innings from Strauss or fireworks from Collingwood?

What a day for Australia. The batsmen rode their luck for the first two hours, playing and missing a dozen times each and having a couple of key shouts go their way and then capitalised big time when the bowlers tired. To be fair, England couldn't have bowled better and on a different day the luck would have been even and Australia would have rolled over for 250 - instead the luck was all with Oz and Hussey and Haddin din't panic and ended up with big scores - there's your big temperament shining through.

I'm off to the Gabba tomorrow, hopefully to see an obdurate England bat all day, but even if they don't, I get to sit in the sun all day, drink beer and watch cricket. Tickets are behind the bowlers arm, Vulture St End, top tier at the front - I'll wave :)

Used up all their luck I hope.
Englands bowling was superb for large parts
Our fielding, for the first time in a long time, schoolboy
Aussie batting was very good but really, REALLY, they should have lost a couple of key wickets early.
The umpires have the replay system for a reason, to iron out some of the crap decisions they have a habit of making.
So Umpire Aleem gets the first decision of the day wrong and then compounds it horribly by getting two more wrong shortly after despite the Aussies having the means to get him out of jail if he ****s up
Very poor.

Enjoy the Gabba Mr P...Assume you've tickets for the 4th day when you say tomorrow
I can't see there being a 5th day

Wow! <Envy Envy> I'll look for you in the crowd!

I hope for all our sakes that the English batting is up to the mark.

Have a great day Ian. I unlike the others think there may well be a fifth day albeit not a full one. The England batting lineup is capable of overturning this lead and forcing the aaussies to bat again. Do I think they might win? Doubtful but they can and I believe will make a game of it.

They need 400+ to make a game of it. Unfortunately it's a grey overcast morning, forecast for an early shower or two so the ball may swing - lets hope that we can ride our luck the way Hussey and Haddin did :)

Time for a shower, a bacon butty and a slow wander Gabba-wards I think.

Yay, the wonders of broadband on my phone! I'm sitting in Section 66 Row AA at the Gabba with a beer in my hand (10am), it's 24 degC and England haven't lost a wicket :)

How's the snow in Aberdeen?

Watson's line and length is looking very dangerous

Well this turns out to be the most promising development since scratch 'n sniff porn. My GF was going to bed at 11:30 this evening just past and I reneged on staying overnight and biked home (she does not have Sky) in the freeze to find my TV all warmed up by my lodger and friend. And I have watched since midnight enthralled, entertained and very much happier than I expected to be. Aside from that dreadful drop both Strauss and Cook look like they know what they're doing.

02:09 am here. I'm going to stay up until the first wicket or until we overtake the Aussies.

Doosie that was
But Strauss is worrying me
Seems desperate to throw his wicket away
He's been whiffy against the spinners for sure - hopefully he gets his calm head back on after his meat pie for lunch.

Fizzy cold beer and a meat pie for lunch for me - food of the gods.

You could try some of the dodgy streaming sites like Adhet.net but otherwise you might get some highlights and that's about it.

Thanks much for the suggestions. Neither seemed to offer any of the Ashes. I did find this one though which has the games listed and seems to be free. I can't speak to the quality of the show however. -- jim

From what they are saying on the Internet stream, the best England can hope for is a tie. There is a day and half left, five days in total, and all you can do is tie? WTF. A tie? -- jim

Right now all three potential results are possible
Beauty of cricket...5 hours ago you'd have said England were bound to be beaten
A draw is, in cricket, often quite an exciting outcome

Off for tea. Cook (?) still up at 98 and not out. Would have been nice to see him hit the century before I head off to bed. Was it 230 for 1? Does the one mean "1 wicket"? How many wickets before you move from batting to fielding? -- jim
