So for a newbie (and don't crucify ...or frag me, if it's brought up every other month/year or so) ...but I was wondering why they just haven't come up with and ASL Leader Counters for: Patton, Rommel, Monty, and so forth and so on... maybe even an Ike, Hitler, Tojo, and so forth?!

Anyone? Chas? Markie P? Bueller? .....anyone? (Thanks!)

Hitler already in the counter system by CH and AH/MMP did not want to name any german counters in case of being un-PC

Those wellknown leaders should have been up front (Ike and Monty were rather pondering upon maps in their HQ, Hitler only uses his pistol to fire it in his mouth, Tojo did not lead any banzai charge... Patton was not shown throwing a grenade into a pillbox slit).
There was a simulation of Rommel for the crossing the Meuse.
In ASL, the famous leaders are Sgt Steiner's type.

Because those people weren't involved in these types of battles?

Also because generals like Patton, Rommel, Monty, and so forth almost never had an effect on the battefield at the level that ASL portrays. Ike, Hitler, and Tojo even less so (the Hitler counter from CH was never actually used in a scenario).

There are actually a couple scenarios that use a 10-3 counter to show Rommel in action (at least, I think the 10-3 in "Point of No Return" was supposed to be him).

Only the Black SS leaders by AH/MMP do not have names. All of the Blue German Leader Counters are named Cardboard Warriors...

There are a number of real WWII leaders which do have names in the system, particularly from the Historical modules, but few Generals.

The first "Hitler" counter was in the HoB module for Berlin - and he wasn't a very good leader in ASL terms.

Yes, for serious ASLers... such characters/leader counters would be balony (ie they're not leaders of Squads and so forth; but for those ASLers with a sense of humor... it'd be fun to have such leader counters; just as Critical Hit had the make your own counter option. (After all, we didn't live/fight in WWII... but it's just fun!)

That's all!

Way back in the Crescendo of Doom days there was an Allied Minor SMC named Berwart. He fought bravely in many battles, and was then forgotten in ASL, such a shame for a brave officer such as this.

Who was he named after and why was this shameful oversight committed?!? ;)

I remember Wetzler, Uhl from the original SL days.

But then there are too many now to pull out of the storage trays......

What ever happened to the fictional leaders of ASL land?

And the "Odd-Ball" 8-1 Armor Leader?

"Stop with the negative vibes, man! Always with the negative vibes" replied Odd Ball from "Kelly's Heroes" which is quite the classic! (with more than just Clint Eastwood)

Tankers rule, infantry drool.

(Actually I'm an old Navy nuke machinist mate first class and currently in the army as a 25S40; even worked with the Air Force for 2 years doing security force work at PAFB)

+1 I don't have my scenario folders handy, but I know that there is at least one official scenario that includes either a 10-2 or 10-3 armor leader to represent Rommel.

One of the WOA scenarios. I think it was Point of No Return. He was a 10-3. If I remember correctly, if you lose Rommel you lose the scenario.

Gavin was featured in a couple of scenarios. Gavin Take and Gavin's Gamble.

IIRC, Rommel was depicted with a SSR in case of elimination in CoD's "Dinant Bridgehead".
The A65 ASL revamping still has the 10-3, but no SSR speaking of Rommel.

Schwerpunkt has two excellent scenarios packs that features Heroes with unique SSRs for each Hero to fit their circumstance during the battle that got them their awards. I've played many of the scenarios from Medal of Honor (#5) and Victoria Cross (#6) and highly recommend both.

They're not actually famous Generals, but there are some pretty famous Heroes.
