I too voted - I think it needs to be reprinted. At least I'd like it to be.
Not trying to pass the buck, but the printer screwed up by not separating dark from light.
That said, as for the look of the buildings, the aerial photos of central stalingrad show that the majority of the buildings following the heavy aerial bombardment, were reduced to boxy, featureless, burned out, roofless hulks. The artwork was designed to give that stark and bleak impression.
