Residual animosity from 1986 hand of God?
A pity England cannot do it by itself. Not a true revenge.
I believe Michael Owen served our revenge up.
It's a shame for football that Maradona's image will always be tainted one of the worst instances of cheating that football ever saw.
Sunday could have been really interesting if inept officials had not stolen all the glory.
IF England had equalised at 2-2 would the game have gone differently...possibly not (as the Germans were better) but we certainly may not have been caught on the counter quite so easily
And two hours later....Mexico on top (easily) and looking the better team and then an incompetent linesman gifts the Argentinians a goal in a manner in which I can only assume money has changed hands

Football's a wonderful game but sometimes it makes me despair...the biggest competition in any sport in the world and, if you're English, German, or Mexican, the only thing we seem to be talking about it rules and officiating.....very sad

It's been a long time since I stopped feeling bitter about the Hand of God... I think Maradona's description of it as such was so comical that i had to forgive him, at least eventually. I said in a previous post that Argentina will never win it with Maradona in charge, but I was very wrong. Anything could still go wrong for them on any given day, but his players love him, and you have got to admire a man who picks, essentially, 5 forwards/attacking midfielders in a side!

Yesterday's result was bad for England of course, but the referring gaff's are making the sport look silly. I've never been in favor of any instant replay, but too many of the big decisions have gone wrong now.

As an aside, yesterday's England Germany game was an advert for sporting play. Barely a bad foul, and no writhing around on the ground to waste time. Players shook hands and exchanged shirts afterwards.

We had our revenge of sorts in 2002, I just don't want a team led by a man who cheated at two World Cups to win another as a manager.

England were very soundly beaten even without thecreffing gaff. They suffered from too little pace in defence and a systemic failure in their mind set. When kids in this country are taught football, they tend to be coached as "star" players and this attitude can become entrenched. Look at Stevie Gerrard in that game. When the team was down he tries to dribble the ball through and shoot himself. When he was 8 that worked but he reverted to this under pressure.

At the back, the two central defenders were down for pace and Ashley Cole caught ball watching.

The third goal was scored when 9 men were up the park leaving Gareth Barry to chase down th break. Again hs just too slow.

Now my problems with the media stem from the fact that they will focus on the England team and blame incidents like the arob Green mistake rather than deal with the fundamental problems. Like the way the focused on the Beckham sending off to lay the blame on one person so they will do this to avoid the uncomfortable debate that needs done. They'd rathe talk of too many foreign players in the premier league than the problems with acadamy football because stories about big names sell papers while discussion about 10 year olds are filler pieces.

There were lot of tactical mistakes in the game against Germany. They are strange in a side lead by such an expert manager as Capello. The way Germany scored the first, third and fourth goal is unacceptable for a team as England. May be the players are old, tired, half injured, overstimated, unlucky, but they remain unacceptable mistakes. And the Menager should be responsible for them.
The fact there are only 30% of English players in the Premier League is another problem, but not related to the mistakes committed in the game.

Any player in any side would have blocked Ozil at midfield, spending a yellow card. Barry it's just too gentleman to play a world cup game.

There's only two things I hate in this world. People who are intolerant of other people's cultures and the Dutch.

Grmany 4 Argentina 0!

That I did not expect. That Germany won was not unexpected but for Argentina to draw a blank was.

Good! That dbag Marapremadona has been running his mouth about the refs helping Germany & Spain so far. Apparently he forgot about their offsides goal against Mexico. And perhaps the most famous bad call on his Hand of God goal. :nada:

Plenty to be delighted about as an Englishman though....
After putting in such a poor performance at the World Cup.....
Emil Heskey finally got on the scoresheet today by donning a dress and winning the WImbledon ladies final
Well done Emil

I'm still hanging in there with Spain but having watched them tonight I'm not so sure.

Well my picks are through to the final but what a game! Pure passing football at it's best. I was not sure which way it would fall although thought Spain had the edge throughout.
Still fancy them against the Dutch but would love the Netherlands to win.
