So does this fusillade of map tasks have anything to do with the Swing Dance classes?

Trying to clean things up in advance of making a run at putting out v5.9.3. Looked at all the threads on Gamesquad, particularly the "What's Your VASL Wish?" thread, plus the online Map ToDo list, and divided stuff up into categories like Must Do Before 593, Must Do *FOR* 593, Can Wait, Not My Problem, etc.

Somewhat chagrined at how old some of the bug reports/requests are. Sigh. Decided to fix the outright map bugs before moving on to 593. Nice-to-haves can wait. There's actually a good amount of map and overlay work that's required *FOR* 593, like updating maps and overlays that have marsh and sunk/elevated roads - I'm probably 85% done with that.

The Can Wait stuff includes anything to do with overlays that isn't outright broken or required by 593. Thinking I'll wait for the Overlay Bundle to take care of all that.

Don't remind me about Swing class.

Speaking of broken overlay things - check out my thread on a clipped overlay that goes over the board edge boundary.

Probably done on purpose in the Java subroutine (and thus nothing you can fix) - but lots of overlays are placed on the seam between 2 boards. I would think a simple check: if multiple boards, just show the whole overlay image even if it hangs off the edge of the playing surface.

Better that than not being able to place an overlay properly in the center of the play space.

Hi there,

I've been having trouble with some of the recent maps (i'm using a Mac BTW). I downloaded the AP8 maps and they come up as some sort of Unix file that I couldn't convert to a readable format. Someone emailed me copies that work fine but it's a nuisance.

All the best

The nuisance is that a Mac will automatically unzip the contents of a zip file without asking the user. Check this LINK (http://superuser.com/questions/159260/in-mac-os-x-how-can-i-unzip-a-zip-file-without-unzipping-its-contents) for instructions on turning off the Mac "Keep expanding if possible" option. Hopefully it makes sense to Mac users.

Technically, if his browser "double expanded", one would think he would see the "normal" files inside as opposed to the "UNIX executable file" that the Finder reports boards as being. Ending up with "some sort of Unix file" is was you normally want.

Unfortunately, VASL doesn't seem to recognise the Unix file, only Document type. I have in the past been able to change the type if necessary (mostly it isn't) but for the latest action pack boards I've had a problem.

Interesting. Of the ~30 boards I have in my boards folder, 10 are "Unix Executable File" and 20 are "Document" but all appear functional. From where did you originally download the AP8 boards? I'd like to take a look.

Perhaps a DATE along with the version number would be good to have in each box

The 4 highlighted boards have been changed recently due to the BSO contests, yet a casual viewer here would not have any idea they are updated unless he manually checks the version numbers against what he has in his VASL board directory

The latest release date would be easier to quickly scan the boxes and see if there are some relatively recent dates

That's a good idea, Fred. What I'd really like to do, though, is have a Timeline somewhere near the top, showing what's been done when. Alas, the HTML defeated me in the 5 minutes I had to look at it, but I've been looking at Wordpress and wondering if that would be a nice 'n easy tool for authoring.

Big fan of date type things for updates as I can generally guess if I did the update. For critical stuff (like anything from Tuomo  ), I can write it down somewhere or put a reminder on my calendar to check for updates every month or so.

Board 5 version: 5-20120401 for version 5, updated on April' Fools.

Of course I will work with whatever works best for the Map Elves. :)

Just a note that, yes, the Bazaar's formatting is munged at the moment. I stupidly accepted Google Docs' offer to "upgrade" it to their new format, and downgrading ain't so easy. Sorry about that. Hang tight.

Love Google for what it is best at, but this rush to change/update/outdo Facebook doesn't seem like the best thing for them.

Not necessarily related, a rant, what have you. However, less time dealing with Google -> more time for Map contests! :)
