What's your favorite guilty cinematic pleasure?

For me, it has to be the Swayze Trilogy:
Red Dawn, Roadhouse, and Next of Kin.

I wouldn't say that these movies are "bad" in the same sense as say, Plan 9 from Outer Space, Santa Claus Conquers the Martians, or even Showgirls, but they aren't exactly the best, either.

I'm gonna mention stuff that I remember as a kid:
Robot Jox... seriously. As a kid, this movie was awesome.
Godzilla. I think I have seen every Godzilla movie ever made and have a Godzilla comic book, coloring book, even a whole Godzilla plastic set that is only missing the smog monster, the crab monster, and a few other that my now shady memory can't remember.
Then there was this oldass Japanese B ninja movie that was really really .... really bad but I liked it watched it countless times. Forgot its name, it was something like.. Kung Fu Masters 3 or something like that.
Early Power Ranger movies. Admit it, the guitar solo rocks!
Some 80's glam-rock, dune buggy, laser beam, battle movie. totally obscure and completely and utterly forgot the name.

Where Eagles Dare.

Stirring sappy music, Clint Eastwood, and blondes with automatic weapons in the background, and no automatic weapon (and they all are) ever runs out of ammunition.

Whats not to love?

In this vein...I'd go with the John Travolta trilogy..

Saturday Night Fever, Urban Cowboy and Grease.

Raising Arizona. Really bad movie, but funny as hell.
NOW WAIT just a dogggoone moment here, partner.....

Raising Arizona is funny AND a good movie...it's parody with the humor tinged in reality ie dumb criminals.....

Good to know I FINALLY found something I disagree with you on...

Too bad, because those were the salad days.

Ok, how about O Brother Where Art Thou. Love that movie, but you have to admit, pretty stupid.

Farce has been a widely respected and accepted artistic form since the Greeks. Check out Aristophanes. Indeed, farce is often the most appropriate form of commentary about the world around us.

No reason it should lead to a production (film, stage, or whatever) to be catogorized as "bad" or "stupid"?

Give yourself some credit. A good movie is one that you like.

I disagree with this statement, but the prior poster clearly doesn't really know much about film (or art in general?) :p

Lone Wolf McQuade -- gotta love the music at the big fight scene at the end.
Bloodsport -- there's so much bad here it's actually cool.
They Live -- super cool because it's based on a true story. Just look at this forum with the secret glasses and the truth shall set you free.
The Sword and the Sorcerer -- more blood and boobs than you can shake a stick at. What's not to like?
Fright Night -- if I ever move to the burbs, I'm buying a house just like that.
Phantasm -- those flying things scared the hell out of me when I was a kid. And that creepy old guy was just . . . creepy.
The Golden Child -- I w-a-n-t t-h-e k-n-i-f-e!
Mad Max -- I have no idea what this was about, but I like it.

Appears I crossed you somewhere along the line for you to be a prick out of nowhere. However, if your avatar is your judge of art, then I would not be holding yourself up as any kind of expert.

Jazz-

I get the farcical nature of films - some of my favorites are farcical in nature - History of the World Part 1 leaps to mind. But because something has a "dumb" plot, doesn't disqualify it from being a good movie.

No, you just clearly didn't know what you were talking about ;)

I guess if you don't consider music art, then sure ;)

Sorry, but must have missed your credentials to judge. Unless you are one of those self-appointed internet types. If so, you and Dorosh should get along just fine. ;)

I guess that depends. Rap - no. Jimi on the guitar or Jelly Roll on the piano or Glenn Miller on the clarinet, then yes.

Oh yeah, I forget about that one. You'll rarely find a more wretched collection of bad one-liners and bizarre special effects concentrated into just two hours. Highly recommended.

I concur! I practically forgot about this gem of a movie! Okay. "You people sit tight, hold the fort and keep the home fires burning. And if we're not back by dawn... call the president." How can one not like that movie.

So, you do know that O Brother Where Art Thou is essentially a re-casting of The Odyssey?

;)

I second Big Trouble in Little China. I feel a bit sheepish that I didn't think of it myself.

Now Caddy Shack....now there is a movie of little or no redeeming quality...other than teaching a whole generation about the Baby Ruth in the bottom of the pool thing.

Did not recognize that. Have to look for it next time it is on. IIRC, CMT shows it about once a week.

You forgot about a whole generation of golfers to yell Noonan when their buddy is putting!
