I already have DBv3 with counters that are hardly used (due to my play choices). What's a good reason to spend $129 on DBv4 .. and to not save that money for Marco Polo Bridge, Polish Eagles or other great stuff coming down the pipe?

The product listing presents components instead of selling benefits, I am afraid.

pre ordered with the excellent Second Chance Games
(I only really needed the upgrade nationality charts and stuff though but I figure buying this supports MMP and it doesn't seem likely that the updated stuff will be made available separately but what do I know?)

I don’t know that there is any compelling reason to upgrade from v3 to v4. But the thing has been unavailable for so long that there are likely plenty of folks like me who never had the opportunity to buy it and would have happily bought a straight reprint. That there are some minor improvements and additions is a nice bonus.

Especially for someone like yourself who doesn’t use physical game components any more there seems to be plenty of new stuff on the roadmap from MMP this year to buy instead.

I still only have DB v2 - that's why I will go for the "counter update".

As has been mentioned - I'm one of those who never had it, and all the 3rd editions on ebay seemed to be around the £300 mark...

2nd Chance Games gave a great pre order discount 👍

The good thing for those who need DBv4 (e.g. do not already have DB or need to upgrade) is that it will be printed. For those who do not need it but need/want the errata counters (the 6 Allied Medium Trucks, the Allied Minor Heavy Truck "B" and Allied Minor M3A1 Scout Car "B"), paying $129 plus shipping is a bit steep. Granted, the additional scenarios from DB4-- ie. beyond those added in DBv3-- will most likely be updated in the Annual bundle, Journal bundle or Out of the Attic via WargameVault.

Almost halfway there 415/850!
Even though it will be released regardless of the preorder, it’s nice to see such support after 1 week.

Indeed.

In comparison Armies of Oblivion is still at 263 after all this time, which makes sense as it only very recently went out of print. There are even still a few in stock at retailers.

Doomed Battalions on the other hand has been unobtainium forever! A lot of pent up demand.

Concerning the Assault Fire use by Polish and Belgian forces, here are AH/MMP scenarios with Assault Fire listed in a SSR:
Poland:
Armageddon Begins
Sacrifice of Polish Armor
Rattle of Sabres
Maczek Fire Brigade
The Weigh-In
First Ally
Battle for the Warta Line
Riding the Coattails
A Bloody harvest
Round One
No Way Out
Fighting Back
Totensonntag
Under Cover of Darkness
A Polish Requiem
Along the Vistula
Belgium:
Toujours l'Audace
Resistance at Chabrehez
Birds of Play

There may be TPP scenarios for these forces, but I do not have them.
Hope this list helps doubters to decide to get DOOMED BATTALIONS [4th Ed] pre-ordered.

In terms of timing, wouldn't AoO (a core module that has been up for pre-order for many months) come out first? Not clear when that when that will happen. Will probably see both this year but anticipate DB v4 will be later rather than sooner - likely a question for the MMP crew.
