Vampires...suck. And so will this MMO, I fear.

CCP reveals World of Darkness details to bloodthirsty fans

The entire game will take place at night and on one server, and CCP is definitely aiming it toward the hardcore set. Nudity, gore, and insanity effects are all par for the course.
So...'hardcore' is now synonymous with 'juvenile'?

I am really losing faith in gaming these days....

They really have to include "nudity" along with the tagline, "hardcore".... what is this? a porno?
:D

I give CCP credit for sticking with a single server (assuming they mean a single shard and not some sort of cop out). At least it appears that they didn't give in to the temptation to do what everyone else is doing by making a multi-shard game with regional servers.

Good on them for it but I don't think you need to tell people that you will be able to see digital tits and cocks to sell a game. If they said, "imagine that you are in a dank, dark, sewer and Brad Pitt from An Interview with a Vampire is chasing you through them. That is what we want you to feel when playing this game." I'd be like, "**** yeah! That sounds awesome! I'm totally following this game!!" It feels like they're just dropping to the lowest common denominator to sell the game before we even saw the first gameplay movie.

I will admit though, the artwork for the game looks fantastic.... well maybe not for the game but the table-top rpg game it's based off of.

Also, here is a crappy video of the trailer full of concept art:

I'm not happy with CCP for a host of reasons, not of least of which is siphoning off nearly all of EVE Online's development resources to work on World of Darkness while EVE dies a slow death. That said, I welcome CCP's attempt to create something different and not try, like everyone else in the MMO industry, to mimic World of Warcraft's cartoonish style. If World of Darkness is geared more toward adults, with much more violent and dark content, then I'm all for it. As long as it's good.

I'm tired of every PC game being dumbed down and sanitized so as to appeal to the lowest common denominator. Save the kiddie content for the console crowd so the adults can game in peace on the PC.

WoD in MMO? Is this some kind of joke? So what, you're going to slay thousands of vampires, get a tons of experience points to boost your stats, and trade on a black market to get more weapons to kill more enemies? And ofcourse throw off Humanity, cause it's unplayable in MMO. Yes, this captures the core and spirit of ROLE playing World of Darkness. No doubt.

Once upon a time, there was a PC game, "Vampire: Redemption". Some people liked it because of the plot and graphics, some said it's bad cause it was hack & slash, all in all. This game had also a Multiplayer option, where you could invent your levels and stories, which camed down to - "bla bla bla, go to the crypt and find my dark stuff, but beware - there are loads of Nosferatu/Tzimisce down there".

Now I saw everything. For the first time I'm beginning to believe, that White Wolf wants to change into Wizard$ Of The Coa$t.

So I guess the next part will be Chaosium's "Resident Cthulhu" survival game. In MMO, ofcourse.

This.

Like I said above, I am really getting down on gaming. Just like TV/movies, game devs are purchasing the rights to popular franchises and putting them through the meat grinder so they can be comfortably packed into a familiar form, thereby destroying the original's genius. It's all about the money.

Not that that is a bad thing, per se. Money keeps the wheels of the industry grinding, after all. It's just that when you're a veteran gamer, you become sick and tired of playing the exact same game over and over again, just with a different name each time. Why even purchase the latest title for top dollar when you can just play an older game, often with the same exact mechanics, for tens of dollars less? I tell ya: the one good thing about the F2P craze is that modern games are finally priced right. :p

I have been thinking about starting the search for a new PC, but every time I begin to look around, I have to ask myself: why? What game out there justifies the considerable expense for a new PC? In years past I could justify it, but not this year, at least not for gaming alone. It is interesting that in the four years I have owned this PC, I have yet to fill the HD! What is more, I would say that there have only been about a dozen titles that proved to be "keepers" (and two of those are chess utilities). So...ten games over four years? That's 2.5 games a year that proved to be a memorable cut above the rest.

Does 2.5 games a year justify the price of a new PC?

My thoughts, too - it strikes me a bit, that I have to spend circa 300$ every year to upgrade some components of my PC to play great game worth of 30$. I really understand the joy of having gaming console... Mark my words, when Paradox will launch EU series on consoles, computer industry will hear my arrivederci, Brad Pitt style. ;)

Nudity is now juvenile? When did that happen? :crosseye:

Seriously, I believe I understand what you're saying... but the opposite of juvenile is not "no nudity, no gore". It's treating nudity and gore with the respect they [used to] deserve, to make the first sensual, and the second disturbing.

A WoD game without "sensual" and "disturbing" will indeed be just another FPS.

Agreed - this was a well made point.

I think this is why Amnesia: The Dark Decent has proved to be such a cult classic. It doesn't treat horror as some sort of ridiculous splatterfest. Check it out:

Even the indie sidescroller Limbo manages to use setting and mood to create some truly disturbing moments:

If CCP, or anybody else, would make an MMO with elements from those games, I'd bet it would be a hit.

But we know that is not gonna happen....:(
