Howdy,

Just saw some flaky behavior for the first time on VASL which others of my opponents have observed on other VASSAL modules.

To wit: The games seems to spawn persistent red outline circles (see picture below). I have never been able to catch one at the moment of creation. They just seem to show up. I can find no way to select them as a unit or a drag-able overlay.

They do not seem to be visible to other players in the same game.

It does not seem to be associated with using the Alt-Left Click outline option although these outlines seem to be the same as outlines generated by this function.

Many of these circles come and go, but hell if I've been able to associate that coming/going with any action my opponents or I might perform. I have not managed to make them happen at will.

I just saw it for the first time on my VASL screen but I have at least one opponent in BCS Panzers Last Stand who has mentioned the same phenomenon.

Not really a deal breaker, but it does become a tad annoying.

Are there broken units in those stacks?
Yup, along with a few stray SW. Tuomo's first turn dice were pretty abysmal....

Is that at the root of this? Anything associated with broken units would only apply to VASL? Behavior has been observed in other VASSAL modules which do not have broken unit functions? I do not recall exactly but I think some of them appeared on empty hexes?

Yup, it does seem to follow broken units...but not well. When I split out a brokie from a mixed stack it spawns another circle but keeps the original circle on the remaining GO units. Is this some sort of option in preferences? Not seeing it? Almost like the broken unit finder function is stuck on?

Still does not explain why this happens on other VASSAL modules?

Mystery solved...sort of. I did not realize the broken unit finder wuz a toggle switch....I never use it.

Still does not explain the behavior in other VASSAL modules?

It not only tracks broken units, but malf'd weapons.
I find that tool very useful to quickly spot units to rally ans SW/Guns to repair.

I think the real issue here is how the hell I'm supposed to compete with such crappy dice.

Hey, Skippy didn't run into the boresighted hex of the US MTR and throw a track. Unlike Hans.

They were so bad, I almost felt bad....almost.
To be fair, two US squads boxcarred morale checks this last turn, leaving the US line paper thin. My Germans have one Movement Phase to make hay before the US reinforcements come on (this is J212 Shoulder To Shoulder, which is playing out fun, except for the aforementioned crappy dice on both sides)
