SP22 Tod's Last Stand

A peculiar situation in which the British must fall back across a stream against slight HIP German resistance from the far side while being pressed by strong German troops from behind.

After falling back, at least one unbroken British MMC must hang on to survive in at least one of a few buildings of the victory area. All this is tricky business, as the British will be hit by the lurking Germans on the far side of the stream most probably while they are most vulnerable crossing it.

The British have no time to lose but on the other hand must provide some cover against the pressing Germans from behind to enable some British to get over the stream before the Germans can interdict it. The British will likely be able to batter most of the German HIP force, while being hit approaching or getting over the stream themselves.

The Germans, while having superior firepower, numbers and two tanks, can still be in dire straits because it takes time for them to reinforce their few comrades on the far side. And if they attempt it, they will find some British in between that have to be taken care of first.

If the Britsh manage to get some Infantry into the buildings of the victory area, all of a sudden, the Germans might be hard pressed to root them out again before the scenario ends. Very careful consideration needs to be given when and where to delay the Germans and with which units to try to retreat across the stream and to take hold of the buildings.

ROAR has it significantly pro German in around 100 playings, which says something. My Germans were able to pound the British quite well on their original side of the stream including 3 squads dying for FtR and 1.5 others captured. Yet, despite eventually annihilating the entire British force, 1.5 squads managed to sneak into the buildings where it took me until the start of British turn 5 to root them out, when a broken MMC in the upper level of one of the buildings failed to rally and would thus have surrendered at the next opportunity. Tod made his last stand just after crossing the stream. He got caught in a vicious crossfire which wounded him and whittled away all his accompanying infantry before he himself broke and got captured.

Again, an interesting tactical scenario situation.

Unwinnable for the British against a decent German setup and plan.
