Hello again fellow ASLers! I will once again be running my annual "Big Game Hunter" tournament at ASLOK 2024. Due to the time required with big scenarios I am looking for those early arrivals who would be interested. The plan is to begin on Sunday, October 6 at noon. It should wrap up by Tuesday evening which allows attendees to participate in the many minis held thereafter. I will be there by Saturday, October 5 and would be interested in starting a game that afternoon.
There are really no restrictions or a scenario list to follow. Just play the large scenarios you may want to play but never had the time. Come early and you will have the time and chance to unseat consecutive (two years) champion Brian Wiersma.
Regardless, looking forward to seeing all who attend for another great time in ASL Heaven!

Awesome Brian, not surprised, Brian has beaten me in the past and is a really good player. I got to get him to visit me in Pittsfield when he can, we have not thrown dice together in quite sometime...

We now have four entrants: Brian W, John Garlic, Larry W and me. The plan is to have the tournament completed before the Minis begin. We still have room for more pairings.

We have some large scenarios in Dispatches from the Bunker, hoping one shows up in your scenario list. I love large scenarios when I have the time to do one, a DR or 2 or even 3 is unlikely to ruin a large scenario, tourney sized ones usually have one or 2 DRs a game that can really affect the outcome and potentially give one side or the other the upper hand. Good luck with your tourney, sounds like fun!

I am planning on thrid go at Brian in big scenario this year if he is up. Hope to be there Saturday afternoon.
John, I thought you were playing Brian Wiersma again? Please confirm yes or no so I can find you an opponent if necessary.

Brian W. said he won't be there, so looking for someone else. I should be there Saturday afternoon between 3 and 4. I always have issue deciding scenario size possibilities. If someone is game, here are some scenarios I haven't played for consideration:

AP 10 - Closing the Net
AP 55 - The Generalissimo's Own
ASL 234 - Counterstroke at Stonne
BFP 83 - The Second Belt
BtB 8 - Steel Inferno
DtF 2 - Blitzkrieg!
RbF 10 - Tip of at Tauroggen
RbF 37 - The Fangs of Transylvania
U 28 - Sowchos 79

I arrive Saturday afternoon as well.
DtF2 is on my playlist, but I do not wish to commit to the BGH tournament. Brian, do you mind if we play even if I am not in the BGH event?

I will be there the weekend before, not sure which day yet. I'd be willing to have a go at a large scenario. Jim Bishop will be driving up with me as well.

Fort, the tourney officially starts at noon on Sunday. Starting earlier is fine with me since i will be there Saturday afternoon. My opponent will not arrive until Sunday. So, I cordially invite you and Jim to square off against each other in the first round!

Last year I defaulted into the second round due to my opponent's inability to show up due to a family emergency. So he forfeited and I advanced without playing which was not the desired effect. I started this tournament with the focus more on fun as opposed to serious competition. My philosophy is that since ASLOK provides the opportunity for ASL players to play an appealing monster scenario but time and space restraints prevented one from doing so, why not toss in the allure of a possible plaque. At the start of ASLOK before the minis begin is a good time to play these types of scenarios. You have the time and venue and to be honest, there is not much else to do at ASLOK but play ASL anyway. I also find that you actually spend more time playing than setting up; take down; start another with the process repeating. You can also leave it as is, go to Dave's Party, play some more and sleep on the next day's resumption of the monster being played.
So, with the emphasis on fun, if John and you agree, pair up and play. You can always concede by game's end even if winning. As long as you two enjoyed the playing and time spent across the table from one another, good. John gets a free pass into the next round and the competition begins anew.
I just want the ASL player to have fun and play that scenario they always wanted to but did not have the time. I just want the entrants to have this opportunity with the allure of a prize at completion.
See you all there and I hope to gain more participants.
I am already having fun just preparing myself for another ASLOK (now just six weeks away). What I am doing now and will suggest is for one of the players to have everything pieced out in advance and ready to go upon arrival. This will save a lot of time.

Confirmed that Jim and I will be there sunday the 6th.

I'm more interested in having a go at the World Cup. Are there any non-US players in this event?
