Hello all,
The twenty-eighth Nor'easter will be held in Springfield MA between the dates of 03/14-03/17 at the La Quinta by Wyndham, Springfield MA at 100 Congress St. Springfield MA 01104. The La Quinta is 25 minutes from Bradley Airport which does have International Flights. While there is no shuttle service, players in need of a ride can always contact me, Carl Nogueira at carlhnogueira@gmail.com. Guest rooms are 99.00 dollars per night, for either two Queen Beds or one King, or 129.00 per night for the three suites we have set aside in the room block. Suites are first come/first serve. If they are popular enough, I will have that part of the room block expanded. All info for the tournament is here: Yankee ASL (yankeegamers.org). Please note that in lieu of calling the hotel there is a link to reserve your rooms at the Yankee ASL link given.
The tournament format will be as in prior years, with Thursday being open gaming, or if attendees wish to head over to the Basketball Hall Of Fame which is in town, that could be time well spent as well. Friday begins the Main Tournament and a Friday Mini, which counts toward the Main Tournament.
The scenario choices are expected out by January 1st as the Main Tournament is a scenario list driven, 5 round tournament. SK play is welcome and encouraged, although there is no tournament play for that. It is more for encouraging further learning of the game. Please contact Carl at the carlhnogueira@gmail.com email to set up SK games and 1st Round ASL Tournament games ahead of time, so that you will get some SK games in, or get matched with the round one player of your choice.
New players who feel a little uncomfortable playing are encouraged to look on and learn while others play. Also, please, unless both participants in an ASL tournament match are amenable to spectators, we ask that you refrain from that. The simple rule of thumb is to ask the players if they mind. I can't think of a time when anyone has been told no, but it is always best practice to ask. Better still though, is to let the tournament director (me) know that you are new, and believe me, people are happy to help you learn. If you are new to the game, it is not about winning the tournament, but about learning the game and we encourage you to do so.
So please consult the site, let me know if any questions or issues arise and we hope to see you there as we did with 50 fellow ASLers last year. Thanks and roll low.

I noticed from the scans there were scenarios from Sangshak by Bounding Fire and new ones scenarios from Stephen Johns and Adam Lunney.
These are not listed in the Archive, are they future packs?

The Steve Johns Pack, The Brothers In Blue Pack, are both future packs through Yankee ASL. The Steve Johns Pack is, as advertised, a pack done by noted designer (3rd RTR in The Rain, many Dispatches Titles) Stephen Johns. The Brothers In Blue Pack are designs made by Adam Lunney and Dale Drake, two law enforcement officers and well known ASLers from down under and New Zealand respectively. Both of these packs, once complete will be published and are being tested and developed by Yankee ASL. The scenarios here have gone through the testing phase and are in their final appearance, barring something jarring that has not come up in repeated playtest.

The Sangshak Pack is in development with BFP. The geo board scenario for this pack are tested to their final stage and three of them appear on the list. The HASL rules for the CG and the HASL board scenarios are still being worked. Very minimal rules SSR overload for these three scenarios. (No Kindling and everyone needs to use crews for their MMG/HMG to avoid penalties, not just the Japanese). So, these are very approachable from a tourney standpoint.

Hi guys, Vic here, Steve Johns will be attending but might be leaving in a day or 2 depending on how he is feeling. He will have Brenda drive him in and I will be there for the day rounds on Friday (Hi Keith) and Saturday around 9 AM each day as I'm commuting from Pittsfield. I will leave after the day round as I don't do well driving at night and like Steve, my stamina is just not what it used to be before I got sick in 2018. So see you guys tomorrow and wish everyone well at the new Nor'easter location, Vic.

Lucky ducks! Our family is off to White Sands Missile Range for the annual Bataan Memorial March, which is now back on live after the COVID hiatus. No wargaming, but I will show the family the nice map from Bataan! from Compass Games.

5800 participants, which was great to see! The 200th Coastal Artillery Regiment, a National Guard Unit from New Mexico, was quite rightly heavily celebrated. They suffered the double-whammy of both being a National Guard unit and heavy on hispanic/native american personnel, which was a part of the history that I had not heretofore appreciated....

Hi guys, I spent Friday and the day on Saturday at the Nor'easter tournament, I ended up 1-2, I won as the Japanese in Deadly Dexter vs Keith Hill, I got the dice I needed on the last turn but got diced and just outplayed by Gary Fortenbury in Operation Blackwater, losing both Tiger tanks in the first 2 turns and he had Smoke on demand so I had no chance with the mixed, scumbag Germans. Lastly, I had a great game of Shaken, Not Stirred vs George Young, a real good player and George had too many Frenchmen to hold off though I did kill 4 of his 6 tanks. He got his 5th building on turn 4 and I could not take it back. I'd take the French on the attack every time in that one though they don't have a big edge, but having AFVs, no matter how crappy, makes it very tough on early war Germans who won't see PFs for another 3 years. If I had better dice I could have won. I loved attacking with the Japanese but wish I played something other than outmanned Germans on defense in the last 2, I and many players do better when on attack and with the initiative, but so it goes at tourney time, you do the best with whatever you end up with. I had a great time in any event, rolled a lot of dice and got to see my friends. Next up is a road trip to Chuck Tewksbury's hobby club this Spring, he gets 20+ players at each monthly meeting, usually half playing ASL and the rest doing other stuff from our hobby. Always a great time, just like this past weekend, I hope to see you there, Vic.

I just want to also Thank Carl Nogueira, Mike Allexenberg, Ralph McDonald, Joe Gochinski and Tom Morin, the first four for organizing the event, Carl with all aspects of organizing and running it, Mike for helping and keeping track of the Nor'easter finances for 28 years, Ralph with both the hotel hunt and the Fog of War Mini, Joe for his Dispatches from the Bunker mini and his contributions with the Coffee service and various munchies for the participants and finally Tom, for helping out with a bunch of donations to the Raffle and moral support from Florida, I donated my usual Dispatches Gift Certificate for a subscription and a couple books that were well received. Great job by all of the above!

Now I just need the Nor'easter official standings and a pic of the trophy presentation to get into Dispatch #57. Once I have that, me and Tom will put it together and get it proofed so I can transmit on Monday 4/1. Looking forward to seeing these posted by I'm sure by now, exhausted administrators. Thanks again guys, I had a great time there, I just wish I could have rolled low a little more often, LOL! Vic. 🎲🎲

Good times gentlemen. Excellent attendance. The hotel worked out well and we had a murders row of top players as well.
2024 Champ Paul Sidhu
A rare second place finish for Steve Pleva
Gary Fortenberry
Gary Mei
Jim Bishop
Ron Duenski (sp)

All guys you expect to see going undefeated late into any tourney and never a shock for any of them to win. The biggest win of all was seeing everyone have a blast at this peculiar, but passionate hobby of ours.
Special thanks to Ralph MacDonald for finding this incredible location, to Mike Allexenberg for being our finances rock and Charlie Hamilton who along with Ralph took over for me on Saturday due to pressing family matters. A loving shoutout to my wife who every year helps with the registration desk, because she enjoys seeing the guys get as much chance as possible to play. Not sure how I got so lucky, but I did and I'm not apologizing for it :).

Great job Carl and everyone involved, I got in 3 rounds and though I lost the last 2, I had a blast and it was great playing Fort, I just wish I played a better game with him. If it is back in Western Mass you will see me back there. Take care and roll low, Vic. 🎲🎲

Hi Carl

It would be great to add the tournament results to the ASL Player Ratings database and website. If you or someone wants to send them to me I can get them uploaded! Cheers.
