So heading to sign up for the 29th Annual Texas Team Tournament. Now in times past when events say they have a special hotel rate, that isn't always the case--I've done better. So I thought I'd outsmart the system and try Price Line for the first time. The charge was $115 x4 nights = $460 (not bad)...plus "fees" (what?) = $571 !?!?!?!?

I cancelled that and called the hotel directly--as the TX website says to--and got $105 x4 = $420 + tax = $480.

So...hope to see lots of folks there and...call the hotel directly! o_O

This is a generally good piece of advice.
If you book through a booking site, that site charges the hotel. Contact them directly and the hotel will normally match that rate, sometimes upgrading you as well. They are avoiding the 10% charge.

Sometimes the rate the organizers pay for the meeting room is influenced by the number of hotel rooms booked for their event. So if they have a rate, one should use it.
