e-Bay is madness . . . or is it?

Ebay

You have to keep looking for a little while on ebay to get what you want at a decent price. When I was looking for the ASLRBv2, I got outbid twice by people who bid $100+. But a couple of weeks later my bid of $64 successfully got one.

Well, I just got Yanks for $16, which is a pretty good price.
Pretty good? And I thought us Brits had the monopoly on understatement :)
Still, just goes to show that there are bargains out there if you're willing to bide your time.

Re: ebay WoA

Somebody must have wanted WoA really bad to pay over $200 for it. I wish I still had a copy to sell :)
Free market and all that. eBay is all about getting every part of consumer surplus from the consumer.

However, in two or three years if WoA still hasn't been reprinted it may look like a good price for an un-punched copy.

Based on this only 1 in 5 is excessive--considering that you are getting in essence two core modules.

As long as you get unpunched and complete WOA for 130-140 you are doing fine.

Speaking of West Of Alamein, I walked into a local store yesterday, and picked up a new copy for an amazing $60 (including tax), and that's in Canadian $$$. Apparently it was on special for $70, and I received an additional discount for some promotion that was going on. There ARE bargains to be had, if you're willing to be patient.

In addition, I picked up Paratrooper v1 from Ebay the other day for $11.50 US. Now, I just need ASLRBv2 from MMP.

BTW, I've put together a spreadsheet, listing ASL module prices from various sources, including some EBay closed auctions. It's the first item on an ASL linkies page that I've been putting together at www.tuline.com/board/board.htm.

Since all the information is publicly available on the various web sites, I can't see a problem with publishing this. If there is, I'm willing to pull it on the first reasonable complaint.

Sorry m8. I'll check it out from work.

EDIT: Hmm, I checked it out from work. May load slowly, as it's on my ADSL line at home, but it did work.

Slow ain't the word!

15 minutes on DSL line and only half loaded! :?

Thanks for the e-mail version--it's a good start.

I paid $127.51 for my shrink wrapped copy of Ebay back in May.

I guess I should have never sold my ASL stuff in the first place!

ASL Solitaire recent EBay sales have been about:

$48.00 $35.00 $33.00 $40.00

Some earlier sales I'd seen were for:

$43.45 $36.50 $36.00

The funny thing is that Gamers Armory lists it for $37.50 brand new, so what were some of these people thinking?

Considering the higher risks, I'm usually only willing to pay between 60-75% of the Gamers Armory price for ASL material from EBay.

Maybe I'm just a cheap SOB.

EDIT: Oh, these are US$

Hi,

I've just paid £25 for an unpunched ASL Solitaire Second Edition which comes out at c.$43. My only mail order sources in the UK have it for £34.99 (c.$60). I'm happy to make the saving I have for a 'mint' copy. If it's from a reputable ebayer then I'm confident there will be no problems.

UK prices are higher although I've ordered a few things from MMP (on pre-order as well) and got away with the import tax etc. which made the purchases worthwhile. Even when I did get hit with the tax it still worked out at a £5 saving. All these little savings add up and will eventually pay for AoO (probably several times over when it finally arrives  )

If someone only has limited sources of supply (they may not know about Gamers Armory) then I suppose if they're happy with the deal they got, it's fine. I suppose it could also start pushing up the prices if items regularly sell over the odds but then the 'real' players will know the true market value.

The 60-70% is probably about right for punched/used copies but I'll go to 90-95% if it's as new.

Just my thoughts...

Andy

Someone just paid $192.50 for a first edition Beyond Valor in shrink wrap. I think that is way too much. I bought a first edtion unpunched for $40.00 and think the counter art is much better in the second edition. For $192.00 I would wait for Version 3 to come out
