Hi,

Not sure if we are doing this correctly and would appreciate any comments:

I have a BU tank in bypass in a railcar hex, an enemy unit advances into the hex and attempts CC against the vehicle resulting in the vehicle becoming immobilized, the infantry are unaffected by the return CC from the tank. the units are held in melee I think?

In the following prep fire phase what can the tank fire and at what - our thoughts are:

  1. MA - must fire at the infantry in hex rather than other targets outside the hex using case E to hit but no covered arc change
  2. CMG - must fire at the infantry in hex rather than other targets outside the hex and uses triple point blank fire
  3. BMG - ? D1.8 indicates it can fire in it's own hex but points to D8.5 as an exception which seems to indicate it can only fire during defensive fire not Prep fire - so we take this as no BMG prep fire?
If the infantry survive - can they reaction fire at the vehicle in their defensive fire phase or do they have to wait for CC phase?

Regardless of the Prep & defensive fire does everything attack each other in the CC phase as well?

Have we got this correct

Any thoughts appreciated

Regards

Simon

To fire the MA and CMG I believe he TCA must point/be-changed to the Rail Car - i.e., to "this side".

BMG can't be used, since the vehicles own hex is not within its VCA while in bypass.

Hi,

Thanks for the response and that's what I would have thought as it seems logical but C5.51 specifically says that the firers covered arc does not change when using Case E to fire at a target in it's own hex unless it's a defensive fire in which case it must change it's covered arc to cover the hexside of entry of the target - maybe I am mis-understanding C5.5.1?. I can find no reference to impact on the CMG fire if in the same hex.

I am stull unsure as I know from the past when I think things are the logical solution the rules don't support it

C5.51 has an EXC at the very end...

5.51 CA CHANGE: The firer’s CA does not change when using Case E to fire at a target in the same hex—unless firing during the opponent’s MPh as Defensive First Fire, in which case the firer’s CA is changed only as much as is necessary to include the hexside that moving unit used to enter that hex during that MPh. This is the only instance where Case A DRM are applicable with Case E DRM [EXC: VBM; D2.321].
