Hey rules guys,

Does Street Fighting qualify as ambush?? An AFV in bypass of an obstacle occupied by the other guys infantry automatically gives them the Street Fighting benefit, I got that. If this is ambush, can they withdraw without attacking in cc before a melee develops?? I think not, but I heard something to the contrary. Seems like a motion, bypassing vehicle can't hold infantry in melee, so they can just pull out in their next movement phase - but this isn't quite the same thing.

Thoughts??

There is an official Q&A on the subject:

A11.41 & A11.8 May Infantry using Street Fighting CC withdraw?

A. Only if they actually Ambush (A11.4) the vehicle in the CCPh. (Although they qualify for all the other benefits of Ambush, unless they actually Ambush the enemy, Infantry Street Fighting in a road hex must return to the building hex from where they came and Infantry Street Fighting a vehicle in Bypass remain in the Bypassed obstacle. Likewise, no Ambush benefit accrues to Street Fighting Infantry who are Ambushed.) {97}

Hey guys.

I know this is an old post but could someone please clarify something? Under what circumstance would a Street Fighting squad and AFV need to roll to check for Ambush given it only occurs in Ambush terrain?

Ambush occurs either in ambush terrain, or when one of the two participants has concealed units. So a concealed street fighting squad would be able to roll to check for an Ambush, I believe.

Under the exact same circumstances when any other Ambush situation occurs [EXC: stealthy unit in certain pto terrain locations]. So, if a unit advances into a hex containing a bypassing vehicle (and a Melee does not already exist in that location), you roll for ambush. Simply starting the CCPh in the same location with a bypassing vehicle does not mean you can check for ambush.
