Errrr... seems like the wildely successful Alien Isolation gave Fox the confidence to o.k. this movie since they did partner with Creative Assembly to make the game. I hope Neill is aware of the reasons behind Isolation's success and doesn't muck about too much with this new one.

20th Century Fox has closed a deal with director Neill Blomkamp to develop a new “Alien” movie, sources confirm.

The untitled sci-fi project is separate from “Prometheus 2,” which Fox is still making with Ridley Scott.

Blomkamp, who directed “District 9″ and the upcoming Sony feature “Chappie,” had been teasing the project in recent months but said the extra-terrestrial reboot was likely abandoned. It was supposed to star “Alien” veteran Sigourney Weaver.

But on Wednesday Blomkamp confirmed the tentpole was back on track at Fox.

“So I think this is officially my next film,” he confirmed on Instagram.

It’s unclear whether Weaver is still attached to the movie.

According to insiders, the new “Alien” takes place years after the “Prometheus” sequel. Scott is producing both films through his production company Scott Free.

“Prometheus,” also distributed by Fox, was “loosely based” on the “Alien” franchise and earned over $400 million worldwide. But the 3D movie opened to mixed reviews, and Fox hopes Blomkamp, who last directed “Elysium,” can take the franchise to the next level.
So a couple of interesting things here. First off is in the first and third bolded segments, notice how Fox is shying away from Prometheus?? It seems like they are trying to distance themselves from that mess while not exactly stating it outright... hopefully maybe :cheeky:

The other is that word up there, "reboot." What the hell are they rebooting exactly?? Alien and Aliens were awesome films in their own right and stand near the top as the best science fiction-horror movies of all time (in my personal opinion). They don't need a reboot. While I haven't seen 3 or... I think 4 for some time (was 4 resurrection?), I would just like to see more of the alien universe explored that I have seen in the comics or even an amalgam of Alien and Aliens but with less shooty and more hiding, running, screaming, dripping saliva, hissing, and gory deaths. While Neill seems like one of the very few premier science fiction directors (as in the most experience in directing science fiction movies), I wonder if he'll keep true to the atmosphere of the first two (plus the game)?
