A five-hex (in this case) FG was formed in the Defensive Fire Phase and there was an HMG at each end.

The MGs maintained ROF during the attack...so are the follow-up attacks on the same target made separately or combined (i.e, do they still constitute a FG)?

I would say the moment they no longer meet the requirements to form a FG, that it is no longer possible.

They can still fire their ROF, but not together as a FG. They couldeven fire on the same target assuming the MP/MF expenditures are there.

Should have noted in the OP (now fixed) that the FG was formed in the Defensive Final Fire Phase...although so far that appears to not make a difference.
