My PBEM opponent just auto upgraded to Java 6 and states:

"... now VASL doesn't work. I get a blank screen (with buttons across the top) when I load my saved setup, or the pre-done scenarios.
Any ideas on how to fix this?
*grumble grumble*"

Has anybody experienced this? Is there a fix?

Thanks,

Keith

Try Control Panel - Java - Java Tab - and change the settings. My system shows update on 4/3/07 and is running fine.

I guess I don't have a 'fix', but I can state that the following works for me:

Java6 + WinXP
Java6u1 + WinXP
Java6 + Linux

I don't think it is a Java6 problem. I would install Java6u1 from java.sun.com, uninstall the other jre/jdk and then reload VASL from vasl.org

Of course, backup what you want to keep first.

Thanks guys, I passed the information on to him.

Funny I have not received the update yet. I am still running 1.5.0._11.

In Settings > CtrlPnl > Java, there's an Update tab where you can control your 'tude for Java upgrades. Mine is still v5 update 11, and I've never had a prob w/ VASL after doing a Java-upgrade, those folks are serious about their software, incl. backwards-compatibility issues.

If your oppo has troubles, I'd think a reboot of his system would solve his probs.

I'm the clueless opponent :) Larry's suggestion did the trick; I just disabled that latest version of Java from running, and VASL is happy again.
Thanks to all!
