Hi, I was just thinking about the one uncle whose WW2 history I know almost nothing about and wonder if one can search archives (easily) by name to find out what unit (division?) he was in.
Just curiosity...

The National Personnel Records Center is one place to check as they have all the records. The WWII Museum in New Orleans lists that and other resources on their site. Unfortunately I am an OMOOT and forgot how to provide a link. Good luck with your research!

A lot of Divisions/Regiments/etc have or had Associations set up after the war. I don't know how many might still be going but you could start emailing them, they'd have a nominal roll of those enlisted with the formation.
