Now playing the recently released "Correo Entrante" scen I find that hitting ships with ASM´s may be quite difficult.
Here you can see a nice bunch of enemies detected , a pair of Bakfires have fired two Kitchen ASM each as a bearing only attack

In this pic the weapons have penetrated the enemy convoy and descended at very low altitude ( 132 meters) once they found the target, this shows the weapon is properly modeled in the PDB

Although the Kitchens found their targets, none of them could damage a single ship and pair of ASM´s launched from a different course have the same luck, but here in the message window I see a container ship has been damaged

Now I resign and see from the scen evaluation that the enemy has done a good job trying to fire down my ASM´s

I guess this convoy should be an easy target for missiles flying at 2600 knots in a BOL attack, but it happened to be way too difficult,or am I missing something ??

Any ideas ??

You should realize that the Bearing-Only-Launch (BOL) attack means that the missiles will activate at the point you selected. Once they activate, they will pretty much operate at their own discretion. This means that they will select their own target for terminal acquisition. I do not know the exact target selection behaviour, but they often choose larger targets over smaller ones. The player has no discretion in this matter.

In this pic the weapons have penetrated the enemy convoy and descended at very low altitude ( 132 meters) once they found the target, this shows the weapon is properly modeled in the PDB

This behaviour is only found in ANW and HUE game version. I believe it is this bug:
Missile dives 60km instantaneously

Missile will instantaneously dive from 60,000m to 132m for the terminal attack profile

This is a bad behaviour because the missiles are set to cruise at 18000m before diving into their final target. Many defensive weapons have difficulty engaging such an attack profile and are penalized for the terminal dive. However, because they dive down to 132m before their final approach in ANW and HUE, many weapons that could not fire on them in H3, can now shoot them down in ANW.

Although the Kitchens found their targets, none of them could damage a single ship and pair of ASM´s launched from a different course have the same luck, but here in the message window I see a container ship has been damaged

I see that you managed to get a single hit out of four missiles. IMO, that isn't bad at all! In case you want to re-play the scenario, I will not reveal the actual convoy capabilities. You now realize that there are some fairly decent SAM defences within the convoy. Four missiles is simply insufficient to overwhelm even those meagre defences. If you wish to fire small missile salvos, you might wish to aim for the ASW escorts to help your submarines penetrate the screen. However, I recommend that you spend the time investigating and trying to classify the targets as well as the defenders before launching a powerful co-ordinated strike.

Well I forgot to mention that this was the HUE versión of the game.I repeated the game and activated some BOL missiles in the center of the formation but passed over the convoy without receiving or causing damage .. which seems strange.

I agree that it seems strange that the missiles would not acquire a target if you set them for BOL activation directly amidst the convoy. Do you have a saved file of this situation so that everyone can take a look, too? The only possible explanation I have at this time is that they were all shot down.

How many missiles did you fire on BOL? Was it one salvo or multiple salvos?

I launched 2 missiles from the pair of planes coming from NNE course and another two from the group coming from the North ( this can be seen in the first pic), so eight missiles and only a hit.
Then reloaded the scen and launched all nine Backfires together... but with nine BOL attacks only managed to get a sngle hit...

BTW, this was not the right approach to damage the convoy, from the scenario info the NATO TF knows that a certain danger may come from Keflavik so it´s for sure an AAW axis is set towards this location and Backfires should attack the TF mainly from the East in order to weaken the ASW axis.

You can turn on the AALog function to see what the weapons are doing and what SAMs may be intercepting them.

You can also try to turn on the VCR function the next time you play. I cannot remember if the VCR s still functional under the HUE version. There were a number of reported problems with it. I know that the VCR can sometimes cause a crash when we play ANW multi-player. Generally, the solitaire games will work (in ANW) with the VCR. All I can suggest is that you activate it for your next game so that you can see exactly what is happening with your attacks.
