New to the game so still feeling my way around the rules. I'm pretty sure I am correct in thinking the two opposing units in the following situation are not adjacent but can't find the ruling to confirm. Please help (and if possible quote the rule) thanks.

Adjacent woods hexes - trench in each hex - Poles in the trench of one hex - Germans above the trench in the adjacent hex …. are the opposing units classed as adjacent?

A.8 ADJACENT: Hexes (and the units inside them) are “adjacent” if they share a common hexside. Locations (and the units in them) are considered “ADJACENT” only if there is a LOS (excluding SMOKE Hindrance DRM and NVR—E1.101) between the two Locations and a player could conceivably move a hypothetical Infantry unit from that Location into the adjacent Location in question during the APh, ignoring any enemy presence. The word “ADJACENT” will be printed in all CAPITAL letters when this added restriction is necessary so as to differentiate from the more common usage with lower case letters.
So in the case you describe they are both adjacent and ADJACENT.

They can both see each other and in a hypothetical Advance Phase, could advance into each other's location. Capital adjacent.

As said above. And don't let the Trenches get you off track in thinking about it. Entrenchments are considered the same Location as the Hex they are in with just a couple of exceptions. Plus units are AJACENT / Adjacent as long as the criteria are met for those terms. Is there LOS? and Could an Advance take place?

Trenches are not a separate location from the ground level location of the hex for most purposes.

B27.13 LOCATION: A unit in a foxhole is not in the same Location as a unit outside that foxhole on the same level (not in a pillbox) and in the same hex for purposes of weapon Recovery or TEM, but is considered in the same Location for all other purposes (including CC and LLMC/LLTC)
