What to Do with the Message?

I opened today my wonderful VASL and had a greeting message

" VASSAL 2.9 is now availible"

I went back to the web and did the old update but it did not change the message

How does one install VASSAL 2.9?

You can change vassal version, my current install was 2.8.

In file vasl5.jnlp, I changed this line -
<jar href="http://www.vassalengine.org/ws/Vengine.jar" version="2.8"/>

Change to 2.9.

please *DO NOT* upgrade to VASSAL 2.9 or mess w/ your jnlpfile in this way. VASL ran ok in early versions of VASSAL 2.9, but the VASL ctrs don't operate correctly in VASSAL 2.9.6 & later.

rk has just sent me a beta-version of VASL adapted to the latest VASSAL 3.0.8 - I'm gonna run it around the block a few times, futz w/ it a bit, then send it back to him. Meanwhile he & the other code-gnomes are continuing to improve VASSAL. So in a month (?) he'll release VASL v5.8 under VASSAL v3.0.8+n.

Hang on for a while longer, guys. The new map-scaling gives a much better-looking map at reduced-size zooms, but the new VASSAL needs/uses more RAM-space than v2.8.
