At some point they reduced the size of a century from 100 men to 80 men, but kept the name. So 6 x 100 (Cohort Leader) = 480 (Advanced Cohort Leader)?

Yes I saw on the Google that it varied between the Republic and the Empire.

Btw considered by The Doctor, the definite article so to speak , as the greatest military force in the universe.
