Seeing the Elephant- A new/inexperienced player event.

This event is open to all registered SZO CM Ladder members with the following restrictions/requirements applying: (they are still subject to change).

Event Moderators have the final say in who plays in this event.

1. You consider yourself to be new to CM (CMBB will be the version played).
2. You consider yourself to be inexperienced at playing CM.
3. If inexperienced you'd like some “instruction” on how to play a better game.
4. You have played 5 or less “Ladder” games anywhere (and still feel inexperienced).
5. Your only opponent up to now has been the A.I.

Tutors will be provided for players to ask tactical or game play questions- but not questions concerning the scenario being played.

It is scheduled to begin in mid/late July.
There will be 4 games played and all will count on the CM Ladder.

Anyone who believes that they qualify for this event should post below indicating that they would like to participate.

Count me in!

I would interested. I've only played one PBEM game. I play bit against AI a bit, but as we all know real people is a lot tougher than AI.

I'd like to play but don't know if I qualify. Can you adjudicate? :)

Edited to say 'If I can't play  is there any other way I can assist / be involved?'

Unfortunately Neils 10+ ladder games is more than the "5 or less" we'd like inexperienced players to have.

But as mentioned if we don't have enough "newbies" signup we'll expand the requirements as needed.

so then us "Newbies" would be playing veterans, that doesn't seem to fair.
Trust me I know what you mean!

But we really need at least 12+ new players to make a decent event.
But don't worry with only 4 games being played we should be able to match up players of the same skill level/experience. And if you hear some of the lower ranked players talk they need as much help as a new player!

Btw, Did I foget to WELCOME you & Neon to SZO the CM Forum?

If so Welcome Aboard to you both! :salute:
I hope you enjoy your time here and get past the CM learning curve quickly. :toast:

No one jumped on this, so in a nutshell:

It has to do with the first experiences of a soldier & deals mainly with the first time a soldier comes under enemy fire /or fires at the enemy it's called "Seeing the Elephant."

The phrase could date back to either Alexander the Great's men seeing elephants in India or "Italian" soldiers seeing Hannibal's elephants along the Alps. But the phrase became popular in the American Civil War I believe, used by the green recruits after their first battle, "I've seen the elephant" (= now I've seen it all).

I figured why not use it for the first "CM Event" of the new players.

Not a big rush to sign up, which is a concern.
Might be that the really new players don't know we're here.
One way or another there will be an "inexperienced player tourney."
