The same in Stalingrad. but in the battles of the 1942 iiin central part of frontline cases of frontal attacks against German fortifications did take place which caused large casaulities. The problem which could cause frontal attacks can be landscape, when it's impossible to outflank strongpoint.
I am sure that "human wave" attacks are universal if the situation requires it. Thats pretty much how the Marines stormed ashore in the Pacific. Really no way around it sometimes.
