I am working on A/I Scripts for an future Napoleonic release and had a couple of questions for John Tiller that I thought that the Solo players might like to know:
This one has to do with the initial Front End screen where you choose the side you will play. Over on the right is a set of choices for the A/I or PBEM.
Q. For the front end what is the difference between "A/I Conservative" and "A/I Reckless?" If scripts are used do they come into play?
A. This option only applies to the AI selection of campaign option, not how it plays the scenario.
-----
This next one had to do about the A/I orders themselves as assigned in the Scenario Editor.
Q. In the Scenario Editor there is no text that describe the difference between "Attack Extreme" and "Attack." Can you give me a brief idea of the difference?
A. Extreme orders determine how quickly the AI will "give up" on an attack or defend. If Extreme, it will never give up and attack or defend.
What I would like to see are "Maneuver" orders. In writing these scripts I note that the units in an org often are shrugging off an order altogether while another part of the org carries out the order.
"No Order" is simply that - what we need is some way to move the units and ignore the enemy unless they get to within 10 hexes AND LOS should be taken into account. If the unit cannot see the enemy then the A/I should not react to it.
I am not sure if any changes will be made in the A/I but perhaps John will get some time to assign his A/I programmer to help out. No promises here - but we can always hope. And from what I remember the A/I programmer cannot help out unless it is related to his government projects turned to commercial. But hey, I never give up hoping that we can improve the game in this vital area.
