Very true but there are a LOT of huts on that map and I would rather use the tanks attacking the enemy, as best as you can with these tin cans. Not a bad scenario but the IJA certainly has much to do in it.

I am happy with the balance and believe it's as close to 50:50 as any.
There is opportunity for both sides to be aggressive and maneuver is important to the VC. Both of those are key elements I enjoy in scenarios.

What the rules allow you to do is legitimate.

Besides, I seem to recall that Fort mentioned the scenario was playtested having to option of crushing Huts in mind.

Denial of cover and shelter for the enemy. There is no building control count. Just all of the Buildings must be in Japanese hands...there is a subtle distinction, especially in this case.

On deck next for me is golden oldie AP62 Shouting Into the Storm, German 90 - Russian 81 in ROAR, been decades since I played it and will have the Germans vs Ted Wilcox' nasty Russians. Elite troops and late war, heavy armor on both sides will make for an exciting game on VASL, can't wait until next week when we tee it up.

next up is AP239 Buna Mission, hopefully we will get to play this one over the weekend with Bobby setting up the IJA. (He really likes the IJA since they get lots of HIP and fortifications). This looks like another fun one. And thats my niece Zoe who wants to learn ASL but might be a tad too young (6 1/2):

Bobby and I did play this one and well, the Japanese step reduction really got in the way of playing this one. I forgot how complicated the Japanese can be as a nationality, especially when you roll boxcars on a step reduced unit, then it gets really convoluted. So we played a couple of turns but we were like the PTO just was not our cup of joe. Maybe I should have set up a Japanese scenario that was much less intense so as to get some practical experience before tackling a more complicated scenario like buna mission. Anyway, we plan to give Hells Comin a go next week.
