Well howdy there internet ASLer's;

Next scenario that is on deck to play will be AP241 Moreh Melee a Brit vs IJA action using boards 2a and 5b. The board layout is pretty cool as well as the OB's involved but to keep the confusion down to a minimum, we plan to treat the terrain as normal euro terrain, as much as I luv playing the Japanese, PTO terrain drives me nuts so just house rule it out. Anyway, looking at this one, I can say that if I was the Brits, I would turtle defense around 2aG9 stone building (the IJA have to control ALL buildings). The addition of the Ha-Go's is cool but they are there to keep the Brits from trying to gain a foothold on the board 5b hill (secondary VC, bits can win if they have a GO squad on any level 2 board 5b hill hex). We will probably give this one a go this sunday hopefully looks like its gonna be a fun and cant wait to use a few banzai charges against the brits lol.

To quote Matt Mercer: you can certainly try.

Gary and I really like this board configuration.

Hi Scott, did you play this one yet? Great scenario from the one solo playing I did, the Brits won as the Japanese could not push them out of the alamo they had amongst that little village they are defending but it came down to the bitter end with CC ending in in 2 melees, so the IJA could not control all buildings at the end. I will look to play it against one of several VASL opponents soon. Great PTO FUN! Vic.

Glad you enjoyed it Vic. I have enjoyed so many DftB scenarios over the years it seems only fitting you should enjoy something I had a role in making in return.

Hi Vic and the rest of the unwashed masses of ASL;

Ya we finished that one with my IJA throwing in the towel on turn 5. Biggest issues were trying to get every single building and try to keep the CW from getting a level 2 location which my IJA failed to do on both accounts. Both Bob and I did have fun playing the scenario but we both thought the VC was a pain in the balls to achieve unless you deployed every squad in your OB which would make the scenario even tougher on the IJA since their FP is reduced significantly. The Ha-Go's are paper thin and tended to die very quickly in our playing. We both thought a better VC might have been to just control all non hut hexes in the CW set up area. Alot less deploying and running about like madmen lol.

Did you try running huts over with the Ha-Gos? In our experience, if you could manage controll of all the non-huts, the huts were not a problem.

The Ha-Go's died from MG and Lee gun fire before I could run them forward. Had bad luck in getting smoke from IJA mortars to cover them from enemy fire. Still a fun scenario and good point on your part.

If the MG's are killing them you just got a little unlucky. That happens.

next up is AP239 Buna Mission, hopefully we will get to play this one over the weekend with Bobby setting up the IJA. (He really likes the IJA since they get lots of HIP and fortifications). This looks like another fun one. And thats my niece Zoe who wants to learn ASL but might be a tad too young (6 1/2):

That is another good one. @Fort and I love all our children, but I think we expected Melee in Moreh and Black Devils of Bure to perhaps be "the ones" from this pack. We are also partial to a couple of others. Because I went into the hospital, Gary had to expand playtesting to a larger group which included someone who attended our tournament. This excluded Moreh from consideration which disappointed us some.

So far all of those scenarios look like must plays, We did try to play AP229 Bastion Bondage, lots of fun for both the Dutch and Germans but my Dutch just crumbled from the panzers firepower (i did kill two tanks but one those ATGs were out, the Germans just rained down hell on them). Lots of fun but one that needs a few playings to grok. I always hate it when people say something is unbalanced but dont give it a fair shake. I guess with tons of new stuff coming out that is the nature of the beast. One and done lol.

Anyway there are alot of scenarios in this pack I want to try.

My take is the VC for ALL building control is tough on the IJA, if it was just the non-hut buildings it is much more realistic to me anyways. Keeping Brits off the upper levels should not be a big problem, having to take every single building, including all huts, might very well be.

Your tiny tanks can crush the Huts, making them NA for VC purposes.

Very true but there are a LOT of huts on that map and I would rather use the tanks attacking the enemy, as best as you can with these tin cans. Not a bad scenario but the IJA certainly has much to do in it.
