Not familiar with this specific situation, but the British do have a lot of 25pounders (88mm) that provided OBA support. Perhaps it was those instead of the much maligned 76mm/81mm mortars.Andy and I played BtB12 Against the Grain. The Germans start with what looks like an overwhelming force, 15 SS 658s, 5 Panthers and a number of other toys. The Brits get a bunch of AT guns, some overmatched armor and a first line infantry company, plus 80mm artillery. Interestingly, the 80mm is not specified as Bn mortar. The Brits diced the Germans, killing 2 panthers with Stun results that they could not recover from, a light mortar scored a critical hit to immobilize a 3rd, and a HIP PIAT got a rear shot to kill another panther. The British sniper also recalled one open top AFV and stunned another. Andy was game but there's not much you can do against that kind of luck.
