Konichiwa from Sapporo,
Played my second game of VASL...
with an incredibly patient and kind player...
my SASL games will be crying now i think...lol
VASL changed everything for me - for the better.

Before 2010 since around 1995, I was playing almost exclusively solitaire (but not by the SASL rules, but rather by the normal rules).
So much more fun to play real opponents. One learns much, much faster. One has a chance to become aware of one's own mistakes.

I never looked back...

Scanned a bunch of old scenarios and wondered what I'd think of them of I played them today. Old Time on Target stuff, Rout Report, Hell on Wheels, Paddington Bears, Windy City Wargamers, Tactiques, ...

Fond memories.

Hey, you are taking a deep dive into the Jungle to start off. Great scenario!

I wish you a lot of fun!

Totally agree, an utterly classic scenario! I played this against Allen Loiselle at least 20 years ago and had 2 incredible ASL experiences in the same playing against Allen's tough Japanese defenders. First thing that almost cost me the scenario early on is a mistaken attack by my OBA Spotter Plane, it ended up breaking an entire platoon of my Chinese infantry BUT one of the squads rolled snake eyes 🎲🎲and it both battle hardened and created a Hero, Fu. He got a FT transferred to him in the next Rally phase and then set out on a complete path of destruction. He proceeded to firer that damn FT a total of 7 times before running out of fuel, he got realy lucky rolling 3 KIAs amongst the rolls and left a path of blazes after the flames went up, from where he had been. Outright killed 3 squads and took out tough defensive positions by himself. He took at least a dozen MCs before wounding but survived the game. I lost that one as the Chinese on the last turn as I just could not snatch the victory from Allen, who was one of the best defensive minds I ever came across in ASL. Damn fun scenario and I will never forget that playing. It is part of the reason I play ASL, beyond entertaining when the dice allow. Have FUN and roll low! Vic.

Answered Mike Reed's call for playtesters - haven't been this excited to playtest since forever. Already seeing a ton of enthusiasm from some veteran ASL players, always a good sign
Working on the upcoming Friday Night Fight scenario (AP228 First Dance) as I'm playing as the French and will also be treating this as additional practise for Round 4 of the eASL Open.
Working my way through some unit histories and veteran's accounts of the Milne Bay fighting for a project down the road..

preparing for retirement In July by planning my next lot of purchases for ASL - some born out of necessity, others born out of pure interest - there's been a lot of vital (Journals etc) and interesting stuff released since my last ASL purchase in 2023. The budget thankfully is flexible but playing catchup can be eye-wateringly expensive.

I had a VASL session today playing RPT168 Belgians & Centurions. I had the Chicomm units. They enter from the north, need to enter some woods/buildings at ten hexes distance or more and then exit. The UN forces enter from the south, so the Chicomm have free run for the first turn. I ran as far as possible but did not reach hexrow ten. UN forces entered and moved close as they could. Chicomm turn two, I move the units forward carefully under UN forces fire. On the second UN turn, the UN forces don't do what I expect, which is to get in front of me across the board; insted they go up one side leaving the other side open.

I realize that one of us has misunderstood the VC. When I said same to my opponent, he said the Chicomm need to exit where they entered--the NORTH edge. OOPS. I'm so used to exiting away from the entrance edge that I forgot that this time it wasn't true.

Next session we will switch sides and play it again.

97 A75 trays merely for the German tanks, guns, boats, and aircraft (in upright, space-optimized storage, mind me) not including German infantry, SW, Concealment, etc. I suppose... ;)

I would certainly nominate the "Great Wall of Raaco" for the ASL Hall of Fame if I had a vote.
It's really just a scale model. Oliver is an avid modeler. We visited him a few years ago, and he brought it out of a closet on a landing. When you set it up just so, with proper lighting and a good camera, it can look full size. I know that the real storage is accessed from a garage across the road, with steps taking you down to the cavern under the hill. But... he wouldn't let me look in the garage, that's how I know I'm right. I used geometric logic, see, and there should have been two scoops left, see, and the math was mathing conclusively to the real TRUTH!

... ahem... where are my meds? :geek:

I scanned all the scenarios that came with the 2021 edition of Hollow Legions. There is a LOT of scenarios. Besides core ones there are many re-issued from the General, the Journal and Action Packs...
Today I went the opposite direction. I took a PDF of the 74 Tactiques scenarios to a print shop. They will be printing them on 80lbs cardstock, double sided, for me.
