X.SS-Armeekorps (aka Gruppe Krappe): Men and equipment provided by the disbanded XIV.SS-Armeekorps HQ (a temporary HQ unit
during Operation Northwind). The corps was subordinated to the SS-Panzer-Armeeoberkommando 11 in February 45, and then to the
3. Panzerarmee in March. Deployed in the vicinity of Dramburg, Pomerania. Controlled the 5th Jäger and the 402nd Divisions. In
March 45, the corps also had the 163rd Infantry Division under its control.
In March 45, the corps (and Korpsgruppe Tettau) were encircled by elements of the 1st Guards Tank Army, the 3rd Shock Army, and
the Polish 1st Army in an area 20 kilometres north of Dramburg. The two Soviet armies pushed against the pocket from the west
and northwest while the Polish 1st Army drove from the south, east, and northeast, resulting in the destruction of the encircled
German troops by 7 March 45. On 8 March 45, the Soviets announced the capture of Krappe and 8,000 men.

The Filthy Thirteen

The Filthy Thirteen was nickname of the 1st Demolition Section of the Regimental Headquarters Company of the 506th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 101st Airborne Division. The 1st Demolition Section were assigned and trained as demolition saboteurs to destroy enemy targets behind enemy lines. The group gained notoriety in one part due to their Mohawk-style haircuts and native-American war paint. The unit was led by Lt. Charles Mellen and Sgt. Jake McNiece and grew to 21 men on D-Day. The demolition men paradropped into Normandy early morning on June 6th. That day four were killed in action including Lt. Mellen, four taken prisoner, and another four wounded in action. Their D-Day mission was to capture and hold bridges over the Douve River, which they achieved successfully.

Ginkelse Heide (Ginkel Heath) - Drop Zone Y, 4th Brigade, 1st Airborne, Sept 18, 1944
Featured in AR2 Sheep in Wolf's Clothing - debatable whether Ginkel Heath should be classed as polder (the clue is in the name) but that's another subject for anther day.
