There's having a polite chat over tea with the Nazgul :toast:and then there's fighting the Nazgul... :skull:
Whenever "The Nine" were actively aggressive their "normal" opponents including the halflings quelled.
1. On Weathertop Aragorn jumped right into the battle 5 vs. 1 no problems.
2. The High-elf Lord Glorfindel had no problems going 9 vs. 1 with them at the Fords of Bruinen. Despite the made up scene that
Fran Walsh :angry: created by throwing Arwen :nuts: into the mix. {FYI- Glorfindel probably out-classed Elrond in raw power.}
Personally I think if they wanted to re-create/jazz up that entire event they should have just shown Glorfindel battling / delaying the Nazgul, Now that would have been some wild fighting action since Glorfindel in battle made Legolas look like a little kid with a wooden sword.
{Notice in the first movie how awed he was just by their bows, that pretty well sums up the differences between the High-elves abilities and the Woodland (Sindarian) Elves abilities}
3. Gandalf had no problems with them including the Witch-King despite what
Fran Walsh :angry: depicted in the made-up scene in the movie at Minas Tirith.
4. Eowyn was a unique human, being extremely martial in spirit. Also being female she threw the Witch-King off-guard (what a sap) and there's always the exception to any rule...
Edit- About Glorfindel: the reason Elrond did not have such a powerful elf go with Frodo to protect him was that his "aura" would have easily been detected by Sauron. Although why Tolkien didn't automatically write in a diversion like that to throw off Sauron is beyond me.
