"GOMER's (Get Out of My ER) go to ground..."

and

"If you don't take a temperature, you can't find a fever."

Laws from "The House of God" by Samuel Shem
but very applicable in the medical field.

This is from pvt Cole one of the guys whom Patton slapped. When asked about the incident he said “Maybe General Patton was suffering from battle fatigue too.”

It’s hard to feel lousy about anything when you're grateful for what you have. When you're grateful, you can't feel sorry for yourself. You can't feel angry. Or sad. Or bitter. Or frightened. Or resentful. Or envious. That’s the thing about gratitude – when you have it, there’s no room for anything bad. And when you don’t have it, there’s no room for anything good.

"Cause when you're up, you're up!
And when you're down, you're down!
And when you're only halfway up, you're neither up or down!"

Do not pray for an easy life, pray for the strength to endure a difficult one.

German Oberst to landser on watch, during the New Year's illumination round celebration in North Africa:

"You must do better in the New Year."

"I trust Herr Oberst will strive to do better also."

I'm ok. Hanging in like a hair in a biscuit.

Former coworker's response when I asked him how he was doing. He has double pneumonia. Southern boy btw.

I learned all kind of new expressions working with him and his brother, much like the Navy. 🤣

There was a tendency in the U.S. Navy to assume that since they made their living by charging into machine gun fire, Marines were dumb.

Tom Clancy, Red Storm Rising

Lol well I guess to an outsider it would seem that way. Gotta love the jarheads.

Lol they searched my van so many times entering base that I had the routine down pat. Except for the first time when I was hauling all my shipmate's stuff. Who knows what was in there.

I first read Hunt for Red October. Couldn't put it down, was reading while taking a bath. Good stuff but not the most thorough bath.

I don't know about "Unknown"...but I read it to mean something more like this:

Don’t judge a man by how he treats his equals peers. Judge him by how he treats his lessers subordinates. YMMV.
Unfortunately some being treated as lessers has a long historical precedent and seems to be part of the human condition. 😕
