A suggestion came up in our weekly gaming session that you should be able to attempt to recover Panzerfaust/ATMM from eliminated German squads, either from CC only or any elimination. It seems like it could be an interesting SSR and/or optional rule and might be something to spice up SASL campaigns. We know that there are scenarios that allow PF use to the Allies, but we're not aware of any that allow the allies to acquire such use during the game. Has anyone considered this before?

If a soldier, never seeing a panzerfaust or atmm before, recovered one, do you really think they'd attempt to use it unless the situation was dire?
I'm thinkin' anybody who spent more than a week or two fighting the Germans in 1943 or later knew EXACTLY what a a PF or ATMM was. I'm pretty sure any tanker was taught about it in theater training. That being said, accuracy and malfunction could be an issue. As to the "dire situation" I'm thinkin' there would be a line of good'ole boyz waiting to "gimme that thing.....hold my beer...."

<shrug> Consenting adults can play using whatever rulz they see fit. I prefer to play ASL.

The point was that you can recover support weapons from eliminated enemy units and you can rearm unarmed units, so why not recover inherent weapons like ATMM, PF (and Molotov Cocktails)? Do they evaporate when their owners are eliminated? Not a gripe, just an observation. I'd love to see some scenario designers incorporate the idea as an SSR.

ATM., PF, and MOL are all abstract, as you know....Best left alone in the main rules , though there is an option to "aportion" PF to certain German MMC/SMC , which I like..so you'd then have to do the same with ATMM and MOL - I mean it's complicated enough, isn't it?

Why? These are weapons that can be used against the opponent, just like all the non-inherent support weapons that ARE recoverable. How is it more silly than the original designers assigning the British 3 in. Mortar a value of 76mm instead of 81mm (eventually corrected)? Or giving the Nahverteidigungswaffe 16 FP when it is little more than a glorified hand grenade launcher? I'm sure that all those squads without any smoke exponent would sure like the opportunity to acquire the capability in game.

While it should be SSRd, use of captured PF was not so inusual. This is a quotation from the forum feldgrau.net:
"As I recall, the 82nd captured a large number of Panzerfausts in Normandy (several truck-loads?) and, after conducting comparitive trials against the Bazooka and Panzerschrecke, went on to use them in Market Garden. I believe Gen Gavin relates this story in his book."

So by SSR - US MMC/SMC have PF usage - give dr factors etc...

Grabbing inherent SW, battle-hardening because you get ammo from dead enemy/friendly units, etc etc
All cool ideas if you're willing to accept the overhead.
I bet the exact same thought crossed someone's mind (cool idea!) when they wrote/added A16.

I'd certainly give a scenario with some extra-chromey SSR a play, but I don't think ASL is the best system for that level of crunch as opposed to something like Firepower.

Interesting thread. I have mixed feelings about inherent SW. If anyone tries Recovery as discussed in thread as an SSR I would certainly like to see some comments about the results.

Agony of Doom would be even more fun if the Russians got their hands on some PF.😆

One of the many aspects of SL that I appreciated was portraying the GI's love of captured equipment, vehicles, and weapons. Rag Tag Circus. How fun was that!!

I believe one of the KGP gives the Americans a limited PF capability. by SSR.
