I have been lurking around here for quite a while. After attending Grenadier this weekend for the first time and meeting a good bunch of members of the ASL community I decided to finally create an account to better partake of the wisdom of my elders 😄

Hey guys,

i am quite new to the game (since 2020) and got connected with some cool (and old) guys from Germany to learn and play the game.

I also attended Grenadier this year which i really enjoyed. So i took a dive into these forums to learn a bit more about this honorable art we call ASL.

Greetings from Cologne

Dan

Welcome here!

As I said - Cologne is not too far. There might be the opportunity to play face-to-face now and then.

And - old guys? 😄

Let me remind you, young whippersnapper, that the Oberst, for one, was still working on his crate of Cognac late into the small hours, while you were already snuggled up in your bed every night. 😉

I am happily returning to the game after many years. Finally beginning to feel like I might have time to give to the hobby I started into about 10 years or so and then got busy.

I've been spending my time lately getting my kit cleaned up and organized in 3d printed Raaco storage trays. I re-purchased Beyond Valor in order to correct my early toenail clipper mistakes from when I first started into the hobby. I cringe every time I see those mangled counters in my kit.

Happy to see a fully supported electronic rulebook. I spent way too much time in the past scanning all my pages in for a personal copy before I hardbound them.

I'm hoping to get geared back up and make my way to ASLOK this year or next and would welcome to opportunity to connect with any players in the Central Ohio area for a face-face game.

Hello!

Been playing weekly since 2022, after the typical start in your teens, life happens.
I play at the SNAFU club near Barcelona, mainly CGs.
I've played Operation Veritable, Hatten in Flames, Festung Budapest, KGP II, Drop Zone St-Mere-E, currently just started DZ Chef-du-Pont

I am new to this forum. I began playing ASL following the original Squad Leader, but lost my player mate and ALL ASL materials (complete set thru KG Pieper) when I moved West in 2017. I repurchased the bulk of it back, about a year ago---at an exorbitant price, I should add (but not my old ASL Deluxe with the miniature tanks, sorry to say). My favorite variation was Red Barricades CG. And now, after all these years, I am excited to re-enter the arena. Unfortunately, I live out where there are very few players, and none experienced, or have the time to play FTF. Nor do I have any experience with VASL.

I began to create my own version of Solitaire RB CG, until I discovered that there was a partial rule set made, in ASL Journal 1 (which I have obtained). The text of that journal article indicates that a complete Solitaire RB CG was in the works. I would be grateful if someone could steer me to where this enhanced ruleset was printed or available.

Also, I understand there is a computer (web based?) program that runs such a game. Of course, I will scan this board for all of that information, but would be grateful for any assistance.

Meanwhile, I look forward to scanning this board regularly, learning and interacting with ASL enthusiasts, and adding my own experience to the Zeitgeist.

Welcome back into the fray!
VASL may the computer program you are thinking of.
It allows to play online - and also by email, recording log files.
If you have no FtF opponent close to your place, VASL will open the possibilities of online opponents worldwide.

Welcome to the forum!

Nice to hear that you were able to restore most of your kit.

By finding this forum, you have made the next good move to get you in touch with the active crowd.

@Robin Reeve has already pointed you into the right direction if you do not have face-to-face opponents nearby:

VASL is awesome! It is a powerful tool that provides you with the opportunity to play people around the world.

I had no face-to-face opponents back in 2010 when I stumbled into this place here. This forum and VASL have changed everything for me. I see the goodness before you...

Look around in this forum and you will find plenty on VASL. You might be able to get an idea by watching some youtube videos on it. I think there are also video tutorials out there.

In case of doubt, just ask.

Cheers,
von Marwitz

Most people are happy to guide you through the world of vasl game play. Once you play a few games you'll be an expert at it. Vasl is exactly like playing on a table with a lot of cool shortcuts.
