At todays
Museumfest! I played Fred Schwarz in a GWASL scenario, Young Blood and Guts. I was the defender (the most important die roll determination of the game), and my German forces are fleeing a company of tanks under the command of George Patton. We're retreating through a small French village in September 1918. A company of infantry with MTR, AT Guns, and HMGs is in the village. Fred wisely played it cautiously waiting for his tanks to be reinforced by his infantry. They approach the hill where they are intercepted by concentrated fire from all of those Guns/SW mentioned earlier. American casualties mount quickly with multiple tanks either shocked or killed outright. The infantry pushes up, but is overwhelmed under fire and CC counterattacks. I give up the other village half, and just make a stand in the village on the hill. Fred suffers enough casualties to then throw in the towel.
This scenario was an early publication when GWASL was originally released. We were uncertain how much development time it might have gotten, but we have a few recommended changes which I will list for anyone interested in playing this scenario:
The Americans win if they >= 10 CVP than the Germans accumulate. The loss of even one tank is 5 CVP, which is a bit excessive. We recommend that each American AFV only counts as 1 CVP.
The second recommendation is to make the Germans suffer Tankschrecken 1917-18 (2.12.2), to make the Germans really feel the terror and helplessness the German infantry felt in that last year of the war. Just their presence nearby had a deleterious effect on the defenders, especially in these closing months of the war.
These are just recommendations, but we both are veteran GWASL players and feel that our fellow GWASL players will have a closer and more competitive game experience with these small changes.
Finally, I included a few pictures of most of this afternoons attendees to Museumfest in front the museum tank.
