@Xavier 658
In the photo below, you can see that we drew the lines each side controlled during the Refit Phase. The Germans spent the entire CG date 1 digging foxholes and claiming territory, the French were essentially dug in and didn't move at all. The red line is the French, the black is the German. There is some question that by the GHoI rules, the French line should have been drawn up to the strategic locations of their front line and all that area between us should be uncontrolled area. The French players thinks that's ludicrous, that the French controlled all that at the beginning and it's still theirs. The German player insists that's not what the rules say. We're looking for some official guidance. Thanks in advance.

Agreed, there is nothing strategic about open ground between combat lines.

Thank you Steve. It was getting a little heated. :LOL:

Each player only controls strategic locations or non strat locs with in one or two hexes of these strat locs dependent on their type.

There is no perimeter like RB.

Looking at your picture, the (German I presume) foxhole in J31 on the right should have a "zoc" of two hexes towards the French line as the entrenchments are Type A strategic locations

OK, that seems to be the consensus. It was marked incorrectly during the Refit and was caught during CG Date 2. It hasn't caused any harm, nobody has entered that area from either side, but the French player disagrees that it needs to be marked correctly at the end of this date.

In the first dates only the German locations need to be marked as most everyting else is French, unlike later.

CG3 date 1?

Any more pictures?

I missed the night it was marked, but I believe the thinking was since the area towards the french line was french controlled, that the entire area was no man's land. Not sure why it was marked like that originally, but it's created some confusion. The worst thing is, the entire map wasn't marked like that. Some was marked properly, but that was areas where the opposing units were closer together.

This picture is from date 2 but the markings are on the board from the Date 1 refit phase. It was marked after date 1 as though the French controlled everything that wasn't controlled by the Germans.

Having been caught once in no-mans-land during a night action in Vietnam, I can say that I WAS NOT a strategic location as 1) I was alone and 2) I spent my time there attempting to look like a clump of grass so no one would shoot me.
I did have a nice view of the tracers going back and forth above my head. Neither side could claim ownership.

Yes, I did have a small part during Inor's testing. Xavier kindly let me in on its development.

Yes, only the Germans need to mark the locations they capture on the first date.

@lionelc62 Could you expand on your answer please? Do the French control the territory up to the German zone of control or only their own zone from strategic locations?
