Pats deserve to lose for being cheats.
Lucky for the Pats deserve has nothing to do with who wins:

SB 19 - Marino (one of the greatest ever loses his only SB appearance)

SB 27, 28 & 30 - Dallas wins despite being one of the most obnoxious teams in history. Don't forget the numerous cut blocks (never called) that open huge holes for the overrated E Smith to run through. Plus thugs and cokeheads on the team.

SB 32 & 33 - Denver wins both by cheating the salary cap to have a better team

SB 35 - Ray Lewis is involved in a murder before the season and ends up being the SB MVP

SB 37 - TB wins with a bunch of obnoxious players (Keyshawn, Sapp, and Gramatica) and a coach that deserted his previous team (the team he beats in the SB partly because the idiot Raider coach doesn't change his calls and audibles which Gruden knew because he was the previous coach)

None of it matters overall and it usually comes down to who is the better team and who executes their game plan better (as it should be).

Yeah, I sure do. NY by 3 with a go ahead TD in the last minute of the game.

I am not a fan either way, but I always roll my eyes when supreme greatness is granted before the final game is played. I still think the Pats are still a pretty special team and likely the greatest team in NFL history without a championship ring.

One of my favorite quotes from Top Gun - "The plaque for the alternates is down in the ladies room."

Brady should have been the MVP. Nobody really stood out and he led them down for the go ahead score. Problem is they left almost 3 minutes on the clock. Of course it was just Eli who threw off his back foot the entire 2nd half. He got away with that poor throw that Samuel should have picked off to seal the win. He got away from a certain sack and heaved it downfield for a giant play. Burress has one catch all game and then the Pats leave him almost uncovered for the winning score. :upset:

Giants earned the win so congrats to them.

All that work by the Pats to come out and play that poorly and blow the undefeated season. :kotz:

The Giants won the Superbowl! What a game! What a performance! I never had a favorite football team before (I'm more of a baseball fan), but I think I just became a Giants fan!

What a sore loser Bill Belichick turned out to be. He demands a one second play and then storms off the field. Looks like he believed his own press about being undefeatable.

Now bring on baseball! :)

Amen there. I follow College Football religiously and don't really follow NFL, but what a poor display for the coach to have at the end of the game.

That might be the best Superbowl I've seen. Turned out almost exactly opposite to what everyone expected.

I'm a Redskins fan but have had to admire the Giants in the superbowl.

What a night.

And the Dynasty they've been taking about all year. Its spelt 'Manning.'

What a night.

I thought it was a dull Superbowl until the 4rth quarter. Great finish.

It also proves again why i don't bet on sports. I thought the Pats would win easily. I'm happy the Giants won though. Probably the only time i'll ever say that.

I guess not everyone ses the merit in an underdog defence shutting down what was hailed as an all powerful and unstoppable offence. That front line of the Giants should have had a collective MVP award.

You couldn't ask for a better ending. 83 yards to go. Must get a TD. A little over 2:30 minutes left. Score and win. Don't and lose. Fantastic game!

I do see the merit. The Giant front line was impressive and should've gotten the MVP. They completely threw Brady off his game.

The first 3 quarters consisted of slow moving drives, not much in the way of exciting plays, and punts or non-crucial turnovers. The fourth quarter did make up for it though.

I was thinking last night after the game, about Belicheck's decision not to kick the 51 yard field goal.

I think it goes back to the Pats not resigning Vinateri. Belicheck didn't have much faith in Gotkowski but would he have tried the field goal with Vinateri?

Perhaps not resigning the very clutch Vinatieri finally came back to haunt the Pats.

Let the record show that Psycho has more class than Bill What's-His-Name who failed to mention this fact and sentiment in that pathetic post-game interview in some dark concrete tunnel. Sheesh.

He now heads my list of worst coaches in NFL history--surpassing that poor-sport Bengals coach (W-something?) who had players fake injuries to gain time-outs. Sheesh.

Oh, and since the Vikings beat the Giants, the Giants beat the "Greatest Team in NFL History", the Vikings are the Greatest Thing in the Universe! :devious:

It was 48 or 49 yds IIRC. Gostkowski has that kind of range. Just an idiotic decision trying for 4th down when you need 13. Maybe if it was only 5 or less yards for a 1st.

He's still a great coach. He just doesn't have good people skills it seems. He's an arrogant ahole to most people.

I don't recall the Bengals stuff you mention but I do remember the Seahawks doing that against the Raiders back in the early 80s. I think they came up with the charging a timeout rule because they looked at gametape of a Seahawk guy running around during the play, wasn't hit, one of his teammates motions for him to lie down, he does and the refs stop the clock for the "injury." The Raiders were running a no huddle offense at that time so that teams couldn't substitute.

he does have the range, but he has been pretty spotty, which i'm sure is what Belicheck was thinking. Had he had Vinatierri i think he would've kicked the figgie.

Yeah, at the pro level, coaching is all about--and only about--winning games. I guess he shows a poor example for others (at other levels) to follow. At youth- and highschool- or college-level, coaching should be about instilling good game practices, strategy and also helping young men become better people.

Bill What's-His-Name's example is a poor one to follow on that last point. If it's fun but only when you win, then maybe you shouldn't play.
