As it says in the title....I had a squad and a LMG in a woods hex, board edge half hex. My opponent wanted to come down that flank in force.
I decided to put a FL straight up that half hex edge to force him into slower movement terrain ( edge hexes all OG ),my opponent claimed I couldn't so that's what we played.

Was he right ?

TIA

Why would it not be allowed?
What point of the rules would be invoked?
Well , I agree. I looked through the FL rules and it didn't prohibit it - plus, I thought if you can fire at those hexes normally, so why not place FL ?
Meh, it was my first game on VASL against this guy, it was fun, so now we've learnt something.

Thanks Robin 👍

The only thing I would note is that the off board hexes are "Öut of LoS"
So that would have a large impact on what "Side"the firelane exists.
But that's all I can think of with nil RB available

FLs can exist as alternate hexes or a straight hex line. In this case, it was a straight hex line.
