That is the point. MMP cater for players who don't own all the back products.
Which is a good thing, I believe, for HASLs.

In this context - only please - under certain circumstances even unit specific counters might make sense.
But even then, I am a proponent of avoiding them if at all possible.

Afterthrought:

Of course, theoretically MMP could switch the entire business model from a "boxed set" approach to a "component based" approach. I.e. customers could individually order single boards and single countersheets. But probably, this would be more complicated and generate less revenue, so I a not surprised that such an approach has not materialized.

Surprisingly (or maybe not) there are no fortified building location counters in any of the core modules. And except for 4 on one of the counter sheets specifically labeled "Dinant' in CdG, there are no AT Ditches in any core modules either.

The have to plan people will only have the core modules when they buy a HASL. In this case only have BV and maybe TotR. They have to provide all the counters needed for the scenarios. Cannot plan on people having other HASLs or even other nationalities in core modules.
This will be a good HASL to jump directly from Starter kit. (of course, one would still need at least the counters from BV and an ASLRB.)

make sure to get the pre-order discount
yeah and for non USA orders add almost the same for shipping and around 25% more on the whole amount in import tax and you end up paying a couple of hundred more to get a copy .

WBITD, Avalon Hill could afford to maintain a parts replacement department. Not so, Multi-Man Publishing due to tax laws (though they try to help customers).
So, the choice is: you can buy it now, or pay more later.

Wow 132 bucks for pre order and it looks like you really do not get alot, 12 scenarios, one cg, a couple of maps and of course unnecessary but obligatory counter bloat. I'll think about this one but with tons of ASL stuff too play I'll pass for now.

IF you are into ASL, I am very sure 99% of the people that play this game have two or three copies of BV. $132.00 seem very excessive, I'll have to place a call to MMP next month and see if they have parts for Ponyri for sale. Ya ya there are "new" counters types but I can just use a normal 458 squad for what ever ect ect.

My guess would be that they are not necessarily unnecessary for someone who e.g., only has a copy of Beyond Valor.....

Agreed.

Just recently it came up in another thread of this forum that MMP's HASLs are designed to be playable without requiring the whole "base kit", but that they work with merely the Core Modules of the nationalities featured in that HASL with anything not covered in these Core Modules being covered by the contents of the HASL itself.

I.e. if you have a German vs. Russian HASL, you only need "Beyond Valor" besides the HASL.
If you have German vs. US, you only need "Beyond Valor", "Yanks", and the HASL.

It this perception is correct, then I find it a good policy of MMP worth to be supported.
