Hey guys,

In the following situation, in PFPh, can this elefant see the Russian squad? (Get ready for another kursk scenario from the twisted mind of Evan Sherry).

deleted image due to space. has to do with an entrenched unit behind a wall with a gate

I'd say that there's LOS based on next to last line in B9.1: "The thick terrain depiction, as well as the hexside itself (inclusive of vertices), represents the wall/hedge and will affect any LOS through it, except for obvious breaks in the depiction such as 6W9-X9."

Man, that is a thing of beauty, isn't it? I used VASL4 to make my Avatar, but I'd missed the obvious application of this format. Should make asking rules questions much nicer. I really love this place.

However, B9.21 does not make the same distinction. I only says that entreched units cannot see across a wall hexside/hexspine. Are the two rules in conflict? Also, would this change if a unit were moving INTO the trench from an adjacent trench?

Yes, this is one reason why I posted the question, so as to get others thinking in a more graphic frame of mind. Personally, whenever a rules question begins with describing hexes, my eyes glaze over and I skip it.

I think the answer to this is a combination of several rules.
First, look at the B9.21 rules for entrenchments. This basically states if you are under an entrenchment counter, behind the wall/hedge, no LOS exists (unless adjacent).
Next we have the case where the road goes through the wall. Look at B9.3 ... If a LOS crosses a wall/hedge hexside through a road depiction (such as 6W9/X9) the wall/hedge TEM can only apply if the target is a non-moving unit. ...
Based on this, the wall TEM only applies if non-moving. This implies that the LOS is assumed to go across the wall if non-moving, it is assume to go through the gap if moving.
Given this situation, I believe the LOS in the example given is blocked. If the units move in/OUT of the entrenchment, they are then in LOS of the AFV.

This is great :!: Now if we could just port this over to the ASLML... But then if we could do that I guess we wouldn't need the forum
