Working on an Advanced Squad Leader Scenario. CH maps and V10 and V5 should be adequate so long as n1 to q1 become high enough terrain so the Viet's don't have a LOS problem for 88 and 105 artillery.
French forces will be more difficult to figure out for order of battle. Haven't set my heart on including some of the relief force or not.
Will probably just kind of lay out the maps and look at counters this evening. Also how many trench and bunker counters does one want to set up? That can quickly become a pain.

Great scenario intro, Daniel. Love the cliche "We're Done For." Makes a great title for this 1950s "Cold War" era matchup. Hope this goes well.

Hi Dan,

I saw your thread of the scenario "We're Done For" that you were trying develop a year ago. Is that still ongoing? I've changed my pace with the Jewish partisans project....and am narrowing them to just Jews in the Netherlands and Belgium (plus France)....Western Front only. I'm developing them for SQUAD LEADER as Cross Of Iron rules patterning them off Rule 98. I can convert them to ASL later on.

Hope you're okay and all. I finally finished reading the 133 pages of Ben Braber's book by Anthem Press on Jews in Amsterdam/WW2.

Take care.

Rod,

Hey

We had a house fire back in early December. All my squad leader stuff made it but its been in storage. Since that point I've had no passion to play without my kit around to remind me to study. Most weekends I just go to Judo now. I think come Sept October will be moved back in and my garage will be set up with my kit. At that point I'll want to start playing again. Hope all is well with you!

Hi Daniel. It's great to hear back from you. Glad you and your wife and family survived that. It sounds bad. Glad you were able to save what you could. When my brother and his wife's home burned down many years ago, it took one of my finest oil paintings (of Baltimore Orioles legend Eddie Murray) up in smoke with it....before I could even get a print of it made. Oh well.

I'll email you my progress of the Western European Jews/ASL project. That's one focus I had in mind after reading that lengthy book (which 133 pages isn't that bad), but it's cemented their story in my mind. And speaking of Perry Cocke's and MMP's definition of the partisan for WW2 (which is really Bob McNamara/Don Greenwood & Avalon Hill), the partisans of the Eastern Front appear to be more homogenous, accepting all ethnicities, creeds, etc. And this even includes Jews on the Eastern Front, as some of the SMC leaders are indeed Jewish.

Anyway, on the Western Front, they are different. It's more cat and mouse, hide and seek... Hiding in plain sight. And this contrasts with Soviet irregular guerrillas who might have had a similar savvy to that of the ferocious British Indian Gurkhas and Sikhs. And with Samuel "Sally" Dormits, Leo Frijda, and the Dutch, Belgium, and French Jews....there is a different strategy. I'll email you what I have so far, and I can convert it to ASL. I'm finishing up reading the ASL rules MMP Stater Kit #3) manual. I just found out that the Germans have a panzerfaust check in ASL, which differs from Cross Of Iron (1979 gamette) that had literal counters ('42b, '43a, '43b, and '44a panzerfausts) called "Advanced Panzerfausts." (They were fabulous counters, but maybe as Ray Tapio told me once, maybe it was a matter of making the newer ASL more playable.)

My thoughts have been here recently that maybe ASL is trying to focus more on wars pre-WWII and post-WWII, and so that might account for the downsizing of available equipment and stuff that wargamers could enjoy with the gaming hobby a few decades ago, because WWII was still hot then. Anyway, I did go ahead and buy some panzerfaust counters (customized markers for ASL) from Alan Findlay for $5, and he matches it up with ASL.

I'll email you though. Great to hear from you. I'm thanking the Lord that you and your family are okay from that house fire back in December. Johnny's happened many years ago in like March. Those are bad.

Take care.

Hi Daniel... I thought I might give you a quick update. Alan Findlay is making some detailed panzerfausts. He's even including the Pf-150.

And he's also crafting a "Panzerfaust 30" PF check that can be added in real easy with ASL rule 4.4.2. I just wanted to update you.

I was able to finish this drawing too to help my work with the partisans project.

So now, the games can bring in a little more variety (for those that want it) while still protecting the basis, the strategy of the weapon being that of an inherit nature for ASL squads and half-squads.

I like the panzerfausts being made individually too, so now there will be the temptation in a given 1945 scenario to have the PF check as normal for all squads - except for those that it was understood in the SSR to be carrying older equipment (that could bring on the "Panzerfaust 30" PF check).

And I can even just give some squad a Panzerfaust 60 just for the heck of it. That'll be the lone exception for an entire scenario, to where the panzerfaust is a complete mystery (because of the "fog of war" rule 4.4.2) with the exception of a lone Panzerfaust 60 that's given to some unit.

Alan has answered my prayers here with his work....thank you Lord. Gotta thank God for the blessings whenever they appear. I keep thinking about the 10 lepers (in Luke 17) that Jesus healed, and only one - an Ethiopian (or was it a Sumeritan?) that came back to thank him.

Take care, Dan.
