Watched parts of it last night as it seemed appropriate. I can see it as a hybrid of the two but consider it more an anti war flick. " I hate all officers. " That pretty much sums it up IMO. Regardless any input is always welcomed.

I would also be interested in hearing other opinions of war movies that are anti war. IMO the original All Quiet on the Western Front is the number one anti war film. Just speaking for myself of course.

The Thin Red Line. Thought it would be a good reflection of the Guadalcanal campaign but ended up being a pretty disappointing antiwar film.

I don't know it it's anti-war, but the movie Patton used General Omar Bradley as a consultant. He was pretty anti-Patton and the movie show his opinions pretty well. -- jim

I treat COI as both. It portrays Germans fighting against ever-increasing Russian attacks.
It also show what some are driven to, in order to receive a piece of fleeting glory.

I think it was Truffaut who said there was no such thing as an anti-war film. No matter how you try, it's going to make war seem exciting and thrilling.
Does watching COI make you think "No way am I ever joining the army"?

Full Metal Jacket is pretty anti-war. Although you can watch the opening 15 minutes over and over…it never gets old.
