About being "west of the stream" is known by MMP.

Lately, all (at least my) focus has been on Kharkov. Might be more time to look at it now.

So errata saying "west of" instead of "not east of" is likely coming.
Note Chuck T and I will be playing CG Date 2 on The Evening of Friday 2nd October at ASLOK, just finished CG Day 1 today, Americans Lost 1 HS, and the 8-0 leader to a Sniper 1 but otherwise uneventful, The German broke (But fixed) the MMG, and an 447/LMG broke without ELRing. The American took the buildings needed without being able to push forward into the Creamery.

Thanks.

Sounds like a completely normal start.

Let us know what happens next.

A four turn first CG date seems absurdly short. I just don't understand what the purpose is.

The US player can risk it, as historically he did, or he can play it safe and setup a better attack for the next session.

Its a 20 minute scenario. Think of it as the first few moves in a chess game. The initial forces are set it's just the players that can try different tactics.

In the case where the three exes from a strategic location extend next to but doesn't include a FBE Hex is the setup Are Isolated or not?
I think not isolated

As long as one of those hexes in hexrow A is Uncontrolled Territory, the units are not Isolated..

Isolated: A unit/Weapon in a friendly Setup-Area Location from which it cannot trace a path of contiguous, Enterable, Uncontrolled-Territory/friendly-Setup-Area Locations to an Eligible Entry Area (3.4052).

And so it is wrote ...

"Units east of the stream are removed prior to setup of CG-3.

Units not west of the stream (e.g., in the stream) would normally be Retained east of the stream and thus be removed.

We plan on issuing errata to clarify this issue.

This has to be considered and written carefully, some units may be west of the stream and retained on a bridge setup area. I think units should be removed at the start of the refit phase, before they have to roll for escape and setup àrea is determined.

They most likely will be....

When units are retained in a setup area, they are not moved/shifted at that point are they?
So even if the American has control of the bridge there is no shift of unit from east of stream to the bridge
or over the bridge if the Ami has any contiguous setup hexes west of the stream.
When soloing it I had the 10-3 pin 1 hex east of the bridge!

From my understanding it's not relevant.

The moment the scenario finishes any US unit not West of the stream should be removed.

The problem stems from the fact that that instruction is part of the setup for the second scenario, so it implies that the refit phase is done before.

This is not the case.

Hmm it says that east of the stream is removed and in swamp/stream removed as is uncontrolled and would be relocated to a setup area east of the stream.

On the Bridge itself (if controlled) is a strategic location not east of the stream and would be retained?
The foot bridge also I think would be retained as it is a strategi Location and not east of stream?

The errata will most likely say to remove all non-Captured American units/Equipment not west of the stream before the Setup Areas are determined.....so units on the bridge would also be removed.

Later, units west of the stream might very well be Retained into a Setup Area east of the stream, if the Americans have crossed the stream, but do not have a Setup Area on the west side.

I like this CG very much. It's a shame that there has been so little discussion of it. So with that in mind...

Scenario One

The first scenario of the CdP CG is playable in 20 minutes.

I’ve played this, I think, five times now.

The Germans have three objectives in scenario one.

  • Preserve their force (if it goes badly for them the most they can hope for is to reinforce with the 4 447s from scenario 2).
  • To slow down the US
  • Get at least the MMG across the bridge for scenario two.
Objective one is easily achievable unless the German starts up front

Objective two is also easy, the fast route along either road are covered by the MMG in the dairy.

Objective three is a fait accompli as the Germans can setup across the bridge during the refit phase, admittedly they cannot setup behind the bocage in BB18, but they can setup adjacent and the US range is so poor they are under no threat in the first turn of scenario two.

I haven’t seen a German defend the centre of the village and I can’t really think why they would.

If the Germans retain a foothold there they can reinforce into it or shift later on, but that does not aid the attack on the hill or the defence of the west bank victory hexes. So if the Germans can’t use the village then is there any reason for the US to clear it?

I don’t think so.

This then means that the correct US action in scenario one is to attack the dairy directly – they don’t have the range to seriously threaten the bridge. So an attack through the eastern most bocage it is.

The problem there is two fold, it takes at least two turns to get into position to fire on the dairy and the Germans can skulk back to the stairwell hex which is hard to get under fire with 4 range paras.

I think that unless one side is extremely lucky then the scenario will end with the Germans attaining their objectives, having suffered an ELR or two and the US in a good position for scenario two having possibly suffered a 337 lost.

IF the US can get a FH or two behind the bocage nearest the dairy then they can setup for the next scenario with WA and make the prep phase dangerous for the defenders. If not they will have to move into position in their T1.

Does anyone have different experiences/thoughts?

I think you can setup in BB18 for the second scenario since DD17 is a strategic location.

My opponent got no American units over river on CG date 2 hence we called the CG. I would suggest 50% of MMC SMC SE being removed is better. A broken 237 survived 3 1 MCs in front of the bridge to block it entirely.

That seems premature.

What was happening with Shanley?
