Hi,
B9.322 (lasr sentence) says: "Claiming/forfeiting WA can never be done between an enemy action being declared and that action being completed, e.g., fire vs the unit claiming WA."

The first example after 9.321 says: "However, if T3 could be fired on along a LOS that did not cross the wall hexside (e.g., from T4), the German might choose to use the building +2 TEM rather than the non-applicable wall +2 TEM. If he does (or if for any reason he chooses the building TEM rather than the wall TEM), the German must first lose the “Wall Advan” counter (9.31) and, if the Russian unit is adjacent, the “Wall Advan” counter automatically shifts across the wall hexside to the ADJACENT Good Order 4-4-7."

Is there a contradiction?

Or does the example not cover that the German may not lose WA after the 628 Russian (which has a LOS not crossing the wall) declared its attack?

You can't drop WA after an attack has been declared, but before it has been fully resolved (including all MC/TC/sniper results, etc.)

Generally if the Germans want drop WA they can do so at the start of a Fire Phase (the Russians need to allow time for the Germans to do so before announcing their first attack) or after the previous event has been completed. (The previous event could be the expenditure of a units MP/MF while still in the middle of that unit's MPh. The moving unit doesn't have to be finished moving for the Germans to drop WA.)

OK.
I was slightly in doubt because of the example.

I don't think there is a contradiction either because I read the "However, if T3 could be fired on along a LOS that did not cross the wall hexside (e.g., from T4), the German might choose ..." to mean that it might be wise for the German player to consider preemptively giving up WA because there is the possibility of an attack at +0 TEM. "Beating the Russian player to the punch" in other words; declaring no WA before the Russian player can take advantage of the +0 TEM.

I was thinking and if the Germans roll the Russian SAN, before the Russians roll to see how accurate the shot was, the Germans could drop WA to change the TEM of that location and make the Russian sniper more likely to shoot somewhere else if they were accurate. The timing would be similar to a HIP unit dropping HIP status to make the formerly HIP unit a possible target.

You and EagleIV are both right indeed.
Thanks for the detailed answers.
