Hi everyone, a question as per title.
  • if I want to fire an ATR in Advancing Fire Phase and I did not move the unit using it, what are the to Hit Modifiers? +2 as per case B? What if the unit is in Buildings or Woods, does the B modifier +3 apply?
  • what if I moved the unit during MPh, do I need to apply B+C? which part of C?
I cannot wrap my head around this.
Thank you!

I assume that your ATR is a Support Weapon and not the Main Armament of a vehicle.
Unless you declared Opportunity Fire, then Case B applies for the AFPh. Case C (Bounding Firer) does only apply to Vehicles and its Passengers. That said, as per D6.1, ATRs are not among the SW that may be fired by Passengers.

"C5.2 CASE B; FIRE IN AFPh: All ordnance weapons firing during the AFPh which did not enter their current hex/hexside during that Player Turn, and are not using Opportunity Fire (A7.25), are subject to the Case B (+2) To Hit DRM—regardless of whether the Gun has pivoted or changed its CA while in that hex. The Case B DRM is increased to +3 if the firer is in woods/building/rubble. No weapon may fire more than once in its AFPh unless using Opportunity Fire."

"C5.3 CASE C; BOUNDING FIRER: A vehicle (including its Passengers) which has entered a new hex/hexside during its MPh but does not fire until its AFPh is using Bounding Fire and always uses Case C when firing ordnance."

"D6.1 PASSENGERS: ... LMG, PIAT, and Thrown DC are the only SW which can be fired by Passengers. [EXC: Desperation attacks by SCW/RCL as per C13.8-.81]."

So that would be Case B +2 for Infantry firing the ATR in the AFPh or +3 when in Woods/Building/Rubble, unless it has declared Opportunity Fire, in which case the modifier would be +0.

+2 for firing a LATW in the AFPh and whatever normal drms would be involved in the shot.

For an infantry unit using a SW ATR is ONLY C3 that applies, not case C. It's +2 for AFPh. Another +2 if it's a backblast weapon like a bazooka and you're not going to eat the backblast. If you're marked opportunity fire, you can avoid both.

but an ATR, despite it's a LATW, has the PB DRM. Case L doesn't apply only to LATW having their own TH table
I learned something here. I didn't realize that Case L (PB fire) is used for SW ATRs. It's not mentioned in the ATR rules (C13.1) or on the TH tables but only as an EXC in C6.3.

It is from the "L" indicator that you deduce that it applies to ATR.

The wording is slightly ambiguous, but I read "even if using own To Hit Table" as the decisive element.
TH case L (coincidence!) applies to a LATW that uses the normal TH table, because it is not marked with the green L (which would include the LATW with their own TH table)...

This is why I love the ASLRB. It's a graduate course in logic, history, philosophy, grammar, physics and metaphysics.

I would like to add that the rules also has an "empirical" flavor as well. One can suddenly discover things here and there and sometimes be positively surprised..
