Luck is part of the game, but IMO, in this one the Germans are better able to absorb and take advantage of the swings in luck. There just aren't enough American units laying around that can be plugged into a gap. JMA. YMMV.
Is it not true of most scenarios that the numerically superior side (usually the attacker) is better able to absorb downswings in luck than the opposition? The Germans have a sniper activation number of 3. Sure, you were lucky that your leader survived intact to rally the troops but you were pretty unlucky that he got hit in the first place. That's what makes ASL fun to play: fortunes swing all the time and it is impossible to achieve total balance when designing a scenario. If two strong players think that a scenario favours one side while results over a fairly large sample size favour the other, it has to have something going for it!

I played the scenario with Bishop at Atlanta. He did not use the OBA to directly harm my (German) forces, but he smoked, smoked, smoked. Adios German advantage. Despite a little bit of luck (that is always needed in ASL to win, that's for sure), he manage to contain the assault in the woods and from the hill. Covered with smoke, my big firepower and Guns, could not do anything meaningful. And at last, he put his tanks behind the wall (in HD position) just at the exit of the map. The game ended when he was able to get a DI shot against one of my JagdTiger. My FT tank could not shot once. I am replaying the scenario on VASL with a friend, but my experience was not an "unbalanced" scenario. Just my experience against a very good ASLer. Nothing more than that.

I think you got a little unlucky at times but I also think I came into the game with a plan and executed it almost flawlessly.

Proper prior planning prevents piss poor performance. 😉
While I understand the thinking on this, final performance is dictated by DR. I can put the units where they need to be, with all the best possible DRM, and the dice can still decide it just wasn't enough. Now, if we could find a way to make the dice understand how hard I worked for that +1 DRM ...

As I recall, you took 4 shots at that tank and hit the wall every time. By all rights, it probably should have already been eliminated by the time it DI'd your monster. Bailing out was the last straw.

Like I said, I thought you got a little unlucky.

Luck is something that can overcome proper prior planning.

Proper prior planning possibly precludes piss poor performance.
